Public Safety Updates

I am fully committed to working on solutions to improve public safety in Oakland, specifically in District 6. I have witnessed firsthand how living in fear can negatively impact the well-being and quality of life for individuals and communities. It is important that everyone feels safe and can enjoy the benefits of living in a healthy and thriving neighborhood. I've shared my Public Safety Action Plan and I know together we can do more.

Let's collaborate to make Oakland a safer home for all residents. I am eager to hear your ideas because the best solutions often come from community engagement and collaboration. By addressing public safety concerns and actively implementing effective solutions, we can create a stronger, safer, and brighter future for Oakland.

I invite you to share your best thinking and ideas!

Bulky Block Party Saturday

Walgreens Parking Lot on High St.

No RSVP or supplies needed! Just show up!

8:30am to start cleanup, bulky junk drop off starts at 9am, lunch at 11am!

Residents of District 4 and 6 are invited to drop off their large, unwanted trash items for FREE! But before you start loading up that ancient refrigerator or that oversized chair, there are a few things to keep in mind. The event is strictly for residential waste—no commercial waste (from construction sites, or haul away junk removal services). Hazardous materials like paint, oil, or medical sharps will not be accepted. Finally, this event is for residents only.

The Bulky Block Party is part of the City's #OaktownPROUD campaign, which promotes clean, safe, and sanitary trash disposal practices. Here's how you can show your pride:

  • Ensure Proper Trash Service: Make sure you have adequate trash service at your homes and businesses.
  • Use Bulky Pickup Service: Take advantage of free waste services like the free annual Bulky Pickup / Drop-off Service.
  • Join the Bulky Block Party: Attend the upcoming Bulky Block Party events and take part in the cleanup efforts.
  • Report Illegal Dumping: If you spot illegal dumping, don't hesitate to report it to OAK311 via phone (dial 311 or 510-615-5566), email OAK311@oaklandca.gov, report online at 311.oaklandca.gov, or on the free mobile app.

Public Bank East Bay Celebrates

$1 million in Start-up Funds

The Oakland City Council approved a resolution that I, along with Councilmembers Rebecca Kaplan and Carroll Fife, authored. The resolution celebrates the achievement of raising over $1 million in start-up funds, appointing the first Board Co-Chairs, and hiring the first CEO, Mr. Scott Waite.

We are excited about these accomplishments as they bring us one step closer to establishing a public bank that keeps our money within the local community.

I am grateful to everyone working to make Public Bank East Bay possible. This bank will support the interests of the community, including affordable housing, small businesses, climate action, and the goal of improving financial sustainability. By doing so, we can stretch our dollars further and achieve better outcomes for the people of Oakland. Read more here.

Coliseum Sound Survey

The City of Oakland's current amplified sound ordinance limits outdoor amplified sound to 10 p.m. The Oakland Alameda County Coliseum Authority (OACCA) has asked the City to amend this ordinance to allow up to ten events per year with amplified sound at the stadium and its parking lots until 11 p.m. Please note these events will not include A's games or fireworks.

The survey is an opportunity for Oakland residents to share any concerns or suggestions regarding this proposal, including how the OACCA and the City should notify neighbors of upcoming events and receive complaints regarding excessive noise. Click here for more information.

Save the Date

November 9

The Homeless Resource Fair, hosted by Alameda County Supervisor Nate Miley in partnership with East Oakland City Council members Kevin Jenkins and Treva Reid, as well as the faith and non-profit community, seeks to bring together homeless service providers from across the County to provide resources for our unhoused community members. Recently, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to authorize a countywide homelessness state of emergency. Read more here.

Oakland Police Department (OPD) will conduct targeted traffic safety enforcement operations to help educate drivers of the new speed limits. For the first 30 days after a new speed limit sign is installed, only warning citations will be issued for violations exceeding the speed limit by up to 10 MPH.
