"Resurrection Encounters...in the Church"

Preaching: Senior Pastor Ben Roberts
Worship Leader: Associate Pastor Mark Stapleton

First Reading: Acts 10:34-48
Epistle: 1 John 5:1-8
Holy Gospel: John 15:9-17

On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate the love mothers have for their children. But do we celebrate our love for one another as the Body of Christ, the Church? As we continue our Easter series, “Resurrection Encounters”, we hear Jesus’ words: “This is My commandment, that you love one another…” On its own, these are challenging words! Love one another? Even the disciple who hurts me? But then Jesus goes on: “…as I have loved you.” That love is when Jesus “lays down His life for His friends”…and then rises to create a new, “living” body: His Church! It is among His called people that the risen Lord comes among us with a love that is eternal, a love that bears the fruit of forgiveness…a love that we share with each other because the joy of the Lord is in us!

Sunday School ~ 10:15 - 11:15 AM
Samuel Was A Good Listener!
Samuel was startled when he heard a voice. It was nighttime and he was fast asleep. He was alone in his room, so who could it be? Was it his teacher Eli, the Temple priest? When Samuel realized that the voice must be GOD, he was amazed! He listened carefully so he wouldn't miss a single word. We'll talk about being good listeners in our lesson and play a cool LISTENING GAME. See you there!

In-person Sunday School will meet in the Heritage Room at 10:15 a.m. This week's story and activities will also be emailed to all Sunday School and Wednesday Bible School families. If you do not receive your package, contact Dalyne Shinneman at dalyne.shinneman@gmail.com.

Greetings fellow Stewards in Christ!

With more and more people having received their vaccines and able to “roam about the cabin” more safely, what better time to begin to MASK-UP, MEET & GREET!

If you miss Christian fellowship (with SJLG members or otherwise… guests welcome of course) and would like to see new and familiar faces, look for upcoming dates and details on a local venue where we will gather, linger and laugh in June.

Also, throughout May and June, SJLG will be supporting one of our long-standing charities, Interfaith Community Partners. Below is a summary of their mission:

“Interfaith Community Partners is a non-profit organization that provides older adults with safe, accompanied transportation to medical appointments, therapies and life-enhancing errands including the grocery store, bank, hairdresser and church. We also provide home visits and friendly phone calls, deliver library materials, and brighten their days through our Petal Pusher rescued flower program, and by mailing birthday and greeting cards.”

If you connect with I.C.P. and have gifts & talents that can cheerfully support them, please email Stewardship at Southbranch0604@gmail.com (SUBJECT: “Stewardship”) or phone I.C.P. directly at 708-354-9328, or email I.C.P. Coordinatoricp@gmail.com.  Let’s get involved and give of our time and talents 😊

Lastly, if you are interested in becoming more active at St. John’s and would like to volunteer even an hour or two a month with the Stewardship Board, please email Dave Thomas at: Southbranch0604@gmail.com as we endeavor to make community connection a greater focus for 2021 – 2022.

Blessings to All,
-Your Board of Stewardship
