Week of March 29, 2021

Good Afternoon CCGS Families,

Although we had a chilly week, that didn't stop us from having a fun filled week of learning at CCGS. I enjoyed my time with Ms. Curran and Ms. Campbell's classroom for recess this week. I also loved being able to visit Mrs. Guzaldo's remote classroom for their playtime in the afternoon. Our teachers are finding such creative ways to help our students connect and socialize this year! This week while visiting classrooms I joined our early childhood students while they were dancing and singing, listened to our kindergarten students read their sight words and writing, and talked to several students about the books they are reading and what they love about the characters. We also took several goal pictures this week, which means our students have been showing success with their third grade goals. Our author visit was so fun!

Thank you so much for all of the cereal donations! We were able to collect nearly 600 boxes of cereal and our students enjoyed the domino cereal run. Please see one of our videos and a few photos below. These, along with others, were also posted to our social media. Thank you to our third grade classes who helped us with estimating how many boxes it would take to go down the hallways and around the circles. We ended up with enough boxes to go all the way down the main hallway and a a ways into each of the circles. Also, thank you to our families who attended our virtual family reading night on Thursday. Congratulations to Landon H., Michael V., Aliya C., and Carrington R.

Please watch our February CCGS video at this link. You can link your March photos to this album. I love seeing the pictures of our remote learners at home, so please continue to add them!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and Spring Break with your family!

  • Coming in April! Introducing District 115’s New Online Payment Portal. Yorkville CUSD 115 is now accepting online payments! Conveniently pay fees, purchase tickets, add money to lunch accounts, and much more from a computer or mobile device. The district’s new payment portal saves time and ensures users that their payments are securely sent to and received by the district. Debit, credit card and eChecks are accepted. Parents are encouraged to set up a payment portal account at https://y115.RevTrak.net (access is also available on the home pages of the district/schools websites). The system is currently accepting payments for current account balances, elementary intramurals, and Yorkville Education Foundation donations.
  • Hour of code for Girls: Check out this coding program being offered to young girls.

  • When pulling into the rear drive at drop off and pick up times, please only make a right turn into the drive. This allows for cars to safely pass the car line. When leaving the CCGS front lot, please make a right turn only.
  • Remote families: If you are wanting your child to return to school in the fall, this would be the perfect time to begin working on independent skills during live instruction. We have found that our students who have returned from remote learning have struggled with not having an adult right by their side. Please encourage your child to work as independently as possible during this time and on assessments.

  • BACK FOR 2021! The Yorkville School District is hosting The Virtual Taste of Yorkville "Culture Matters" to feature the melting pot of cultures that make up the Yorkville School District community. This virtual event will feature several cultural highlights, recipes, and interviews. This year's event will be held virtually on YouTube due to the current pandemic. The event will kick-off this year on Saturday, April 24th.  We are looking for participants to submit a video that will showcase aspects of your culture/country. You will be showcasing one aspect of your cultural heritage in a 5-10 minute video and allow others to travel the world experiencing your culture through artifacts, music, dance, food, arts, literature and more. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Participant Google Form. If you have any questions, please contact Michael Camp at [email protected]
Ms. Taxis Classroom Highlight of the Week

WOW!! It’s hard to believe that March is almost over. It has been a fun and crazy year with learning to social distance, wear masks and still have fun while learning. In Math, we have been working on fractions by creating a Fraction Pizzeria and using handy tools to help with equivalent fractions.

In reading we have been reading several books that are part of “Battle of the Books”. They are loving the different genres. We just finished Fredrick Douglas and they are very disappointed it's over. We just started Sarah Plain and Tall. I hope they like this one just as much.

In Science, we have been working on force and motion. They were able to build a bridge out of materials in the classroom. They had to be very creative with their materials. It was a super fun activity!

In Writing, everyone has been practicing opinion writing and what needs to be included. They are planning their dream spring break. They are researching different areas and will determine which one they think would be the best and then write a paper explaining why. I am so excited to see what they choose.

We can't wait to see what the rest of this school year brings!

Love,
Mrs. Taxis’ 3rd grade

Look at all the fun taking place in Ms. Taxis' classroom!
