Elections Results
The City of Garland held a General Election for two-year terms for Mayor and Districts 3, 6, 7 and 8 and a Special Election for the final year of an unfinished term in District 1 on May 1, 2021.

Unofficial results are as follows:

Mayor - Scott LeMay
District 1 - Jeff Bass
District 6 - Robert Vera
District 7 - Dylan Hedrick
District 8 - Robert John Smith

In District 3, no candidate received more than half of the votes cast. There will be a runoff between the two candidates receiving the largest number of votes: Ed Moore and PC Mathew.

The election results will be certified at a special meeting of the Garland City Council on Tuesday, May 11.

The runoff date is Saturday, June 5, with early voting from Monday, May 24, through Tuesday, June 1. More information.
Garland Aquatics Job Fair Saturday, May 15
Garland Aquatics will host a job fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Garland Senior Activity Center, 600 W. Avenue A.

We currently have openings for lifeguards and swim instructors. We offer free training, uniforms and flexible hours.

Frida Kahlo Pop-Up Museum
The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) brings a peek of its free exhibition "Frida Kahlo: Five Works" to Garland with a pop-up installation at 506 Main St. in Downtown.

The outdoor installation is inspired by the celebrated Mexican artist’s home and museum in Mexico City and features reproductions of "Still Life" and "Still Life with Parrot and Flag," two of Kahlo’s paintings currently on view at the DMA.

Viewers are invited to discover more by visiting the free exhibition in-person through June 20 or virtually at virtual.dma.org/fridakahlo.
"The Cactus Chronicles" Saturday, May 15
Friends of Garland's Historic Magic 11th Street present "The Cactus Chronicles" at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.

"The Cactus Chronicles" tells the story of one family's profound and enduring mark on the Garland community and its culture. Follow Manuel and Maria Valle, who arrived in Garland almost a century ago as the town's first Latino dwellers.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 305 active cases out of 27,996 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 434 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

Updated COVID-19 Recovery Resources
The City of Garland and other community partners are facilitating access to various recovery programs for residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020, for death related to the coronavirus.

Rental assistance is available through Catholic Charities of Dallas. You can check your eligibility and apply for this assistance online or contact a case manager for assistance by calling 214-257-0674. One-on-one meetings can be scheduled, as needed, between noon and 4 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at Garland's Central Library, 625 Austin St.

The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m.  

City Council Special Session
May 11
The Mayor and four Council Members will be sworn in during a special Council Session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11.

TxDOT Virtual Public Meeting
May 13
The Texas Department of Transportation will host a virtual public meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 13, to discuss the operational improvements proposed to approximately 5.5 miles of I-30 from I-635 to Bass Pro Drive. The meeting is not a live event and can be viewed through 6 p.m. Friday, May 28. Learn more.

DARTzoom Meeting
May 24
Dallas Area Rapid Transit is redesigning its bus network. New routes, more hours of service and greater coverage are included in a five-year bus service plan to be implemented in January 2022. A series of 15 meetings, DARTzoom: A New Bus Network, is in motion to collect public input. Each meeting targets a specific coverage area. The Garland meeting will be at noon Monday, May 24. Garland Youth Council Accepting Applications Through Friday, June 4
Interested Garland residents who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2021-22 school year are eligible to apply to serve on the Garland Youth Council. Learn more and download an application on the Garland Youth Council page at GarlandTX.gov. Email GYC@GarlandTX.gov with any questions.
