Good News &
Updates from Afghanistan JAN 2022
Dear Friends,
Since August Afghanistan has been going through radical political changes and is now facing enormous difficulties that have naturally also affected our organization and our projects. MMCC stopped its activities at the beginning of these disruptions to avoid any potential problems for the children and our colleagues. However, already in September one of our trainers in Nangarhar started his activities (as Bilal Circus) with permission from the new Taliban authorities in Jalalabad. Later in December we successfully obtained the required permissions from the new Taliban`s central government to restart our work. Immediately after obtaining the permissions we started activities in 7 provinces of Afghanistan. Part of our activities are now modified and adjusted according to the new rules and regulations in Afghanistan, with further adjustments to be included when we soon start more activities. MMCC is committed to the children and youth of Afghanistan and we all feel so happy to continue our activities now for nearly 20 years with so many different challenges especially in the times when our works are most needed.
New workshops, performances & Juggling Competitions
As soon as we received the permissions from the new government in Afghanistan in December we started activities including workshops and juggling competitions in 7 provinces (10 locations) in Kabul, Herat, Ghor, Bamyan, Nangarhar, Balkh, and Khost. Hundreds of children and youth participated in regional workshops, competitions, and performances. This time, the juggling competitions and how we organized them were totally decentralized and mostly carried out by the youth themselves. Most of the presents and awards for the winners were food items as Afghanistan is suffering a tragic food shortage and even starvation.
Winter Program
Over 170 girls and boys in two different morning and afternoon shifts are attending our winter program in Herat province right now. Our winter program provides different school subjects such as Math, English, Persian (Dari) Pashtu, and Quran classes, together with entertaining activities such as social circus and social games. The students get a nutritious warm meal every day too. This is a unique opportunity, especially for the underprivileged children to turn the cold winter season into a happy time of fun with art and culture.
Don’t forget the children of Afghanistan
Children of Afghanistan have a severe need for experiencing a happy childhood, laughter, joy, and educational entertainment now more than ever. We hope the international community, including governments, humanitarian organizations, and individuals pay more attention to this emergency situation and do not forget Afghanistan and its children. We have a new strategy of decentralizing the activities, whereby we will be even more effective than before. Supporting Afghan youth in mobilizing their own teams and reaching many more children with activities is a resilient, sustainable, integrated, and cost-effective model that we already started developing since a few years ago. This process gradually transforms MMCC from solely implementing NGO to rather focus on mobilizing, facilitating, networking, and supporting youth to serve many more children and youth in Afghanistan.
Food Emergency
Besides our “BackToLife” campaign to bring and maintain fun and joy for children and youth, we have also started a new campaign called “SHARING”. We support underprivileged children and vulnerable families in this campaign by providing food, winterization packages, and food supplements. Likewise, lunch is provided for underprivileged children while mobilizing the youth to create joyful social activities and bring hope into their communities.
