Call to Worship

Liturgist: The Lord is continually creating something new

People: We are part of that creation, renewed, redeemed, beloved.

Liturgist: Through all this change, God is with us.

People: Though we struggle and doubt, yet God is faithful

Liturgist: Praise be to God who continually blesses us.

People: Let our hearts, our voices, and our spirits sing God’s praises. AMEN.

Opening Prayer

In the midst of continual change, God remains steadfast in God’s love for us. God is creating something new, a new heaven and a new earth. Each day offers newness of hope and faith. Let us open our hearts and spirits to God’s creative word for us that we may learn, grow, and serve as effective witnesses to God’s love and power. AMEN.

Prayer of Confession

We are all invited to silent confession. “Grace is just the natural loving flow of things when we allow it, instead of resisting it. Sin is any cutting or limiting of that circuit.”― Richard Rohr- We may confess silently so that we let God’s love flow in us and to others. Though the time of silence confession of sin, Christ “purifies us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9) (1 minutes of silence)

Words of Assurance

Liturgist: In the midst of our darkness and ignorance, the bright light of God’s love shines through, healing our anguished souls. Rejoice, beloved of God, for God’s love and forgiveness are given to you this day. AMEN.

ATTENTION TO THE WORD OF GOD

Scripture Readings:  Lk. 21:5-19

5 When some were speaking about the temple, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said, 6 “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.”7 They asked him, “Teacher, when will this be, and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?” 8 And he said, “Beware that you are not led astray, for many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’[a] and, ‘The time is near!’[b] Do not go after them.9 “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified, for these things must take place first, but the end will not follow immediately.” 10 Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom; 11 there will be great earthquakes and in various places famines and plagues, and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. 14 So make up your minds not to prepare your defense in advance, 15 for I will give you words[c] and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and siblings, by relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. 17 You will be hated by all because of my name. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your souls.

Liturgist: The word of God for the people of God.

People: Thanks be to God.

ANNUAL PLEDGE for 2023

John Wilder

Stewardship Prayer Of Dedication

Receive these gifts, O God. We offer to you, these gifts in humble thanks for the creating love you give to us. Receive these pledges, O God. We offer to you, these pledges in unassuming thanks for the redeeming love you give to us. Receive these commitments, O God. We offer to you, these commitments in grateful thanks for the sustaining love you give to us. Let us be surprised this year. May our eyes, our minds and our hearts be opened this year. May we be surprised in our lives, in our church and in our ministry together. Thanks be to God! Thanks be to God! Amen.
