CSU Pueblo Shows Increase in Enrollment and Retention Numbers for Fall 2023

Colorado State University in Fort Collins welcomed one of its largest classes ever this fall and also saw record enrollment of diverse students. At CSU Pueblo, increases in new freshmen and a big jump in graduate students drove an overall enrollment increase over Fall 2022.

CSU President Amy Parsons and CSU Pueblo President Timothy Mottet presented their preliminary enrollment updates for Fall 2023 at the CSU System Board of Governors meeting on Thursday. Both campuses saw increases in diverse and first-generation students this fall, reflecting CSU’s long-standing commitment to making education affordable and accessible.

“Our System has a unique access mission – with a commitment to open the doors of a college education to students who traditionally have been underserved by higher education,” CSU System Chancellor Tony Frank said. “Our enrollment trends this year demonstrate the continued importance of that mission to Colorado.”

Fall 2023 enrollments reflect a continued emphasis on serving Colorado residents, first-generation students, and diverse students from all parts of the state. The CSU System has invested $11.2 million in the Fort Collins and Pueblo campuses over a three-year period (beginning in 2021) to support student success, close equity gaps, and increase retention and graduation rates. Additional funding targeted at supporting rural student enrollment should result in closer connectivity with rural school districts and students.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month - Password Security

On behalf of the IT Information Security

In recognition of Cyber Awareness Month, it's vital to highlight the importance of strong passwords and the role that password managers play in securing our digital lives. Passwords remain the first line of defense against cyber threats, making it essential for every user to prioritize their password strength and uniqueness.

Creating strong passwords involves using a combination of upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and special characters, while avoiding easily guessable information like birthdays or common words. It's crucial to use different passwords for various accounts to prevent a domino effect if one is compromised. However, remembering complex passwords for multiple accounts can be challenging. This is where password managers come to the rescue. Password managers not only generate and store strong, unique passwords for each account but also automatically fills the password in a field in when needed, eliminating the need to remember them. They provide a secure and convenient solution for users to enhance their online security, and many reputable options are available, such as KeePass, Dashlane, and 1Password. This Cyber Awareness Month, consider adopting a password manager as a powerful tool to fortify your digital defenses and keep your sensitive information safe from prying eyes and cyber threats.

NEW: Cybersecurity: Phishing

On behalf of IT: Information Security

In today's interconnected world, it's crucial to be vigilant when it comes to online security. One of the most prevalent threats you may encounter is phishing. Phishing attacks are deceptive attempts by cybercriminals to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, or personal data. To help you stay safe online, we'd like to share some essential information on how to detect phishing attempts and best practices for protection.

Examine the sender's email address carefully. Be cautious if it seems suspicious or if it uses a free email service for company-related communication. Phishing emails often contain grammatical or spelling mistakes. Legitimate organizations usually maintain a high standard of communication. Phishing emails may create a sense of urgency or threaten negative consequences if you don't act immediately. Be skeptical of such messages. Hover your cursor over any links in the email to reveal the actual URL. If it looks suspicious or doesn't match the sender's claimed destination, don't click on it. Refrain from downloading attachments or files from unknown sources. Malicious attachments can contain harmful software.

If you receive an email requesting personal or financial information, contact the organization directly using official contact information, rather than replying to the email. If you receive a phishing email, report it to your email provider or IT department. Reporting helps in identifying and preventing future attacks.

 Stay secure and stay safe!
