County Pauses Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Dispensing
Out of an abundance of caution, and on the recommendation from the CDC and FDA, the Sedgwick County Health Department will not provide the one-dose Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine today. Anyone who scheduled an appointment for the J&J vaccine will be offered Pfizer.

There is a very rare side effect that six people have experienced related to a blood clot. If a person received the J&J vaccine and within three weeks developed a severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath, they should contact their doctor.

If a person with a severe medical risk has received medical advice to not go to a large vaccine clinic, such as the community vaccination site at 223 S. Main, please call SCHD at (316) 660-1029 to schedule an appointment for the drive-thru clinic. The drive-thru clinic is also open to residents with mobility difficulties.

People with appointments will have the following locations to receive the vaccines.

  • 223 S. Main, Wichita | Former Central Library | Clinic for people age 16 and older

  • 777 E. Waterman, Wichita | Wichita Transit Operations | Drive-thru clinic for people age 16 and older who received medical advice to not to go to a large vaccine clinic or who have mobility difficulties

Please arrive to your vaccine appointment no more than 15 minutes early and plan to allow at least 45 minutes for the vaccine appointment. The earlier you arrive to your appointment, the longer you have to wait on site.

For people who prefer to speak in a language other than English, no-cost interpreting services are available at the vaccine clinic at 223 S. Main to help you receive a vaccine.
Vaccine Questions
Contact your medical provider prior to the vaccine appointment if you have questions about how the vaccine may interact with your medical condition and medications you take.

Please direct general questions about the COVID-19 vaccine to (316) 660-1022; this line is not for scheduling appointments.
County Pledge
As more vaccine is received, the Sedgwick County Health Department will vaccinate more people while following guidance from CDC, KDHE, and Sedgwick County Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns. The vaccination schedule is designed to assure that all who want to be vaccinated will have that opportunity. The implementation of the vaccination schedule is dependent on the manufacturing and distribution schedule from vaccine providers. The County will not schedule more appointments than the vaccine available.
