REMEMBERING THE TRAGEDY OF 9/11
Teen Court and PESA Participate in an Educational Event Memorializing the Terrorist Attack
Just days before the 20th anniversary of 9/11, we’re proud to announce that the Judge David S. Wesley Los Angeles Superior Court Teen Court Program and its CBO partner PESA have been selected to participate in an upcoming national remembrance of the terror attack called the 9/11 Flag of Honor Across America Memorials. Sponsored by Global Youth Justice, Inc. and AmeriCorps, the event brings together 60 community based organizations throughout the U.S. in a joint effort to honor the nearly 3,000 men, women and children lost on September 11, 2001, as well as those killed in the World Trade Center bombing on February 26, 1993.

It’s hard to fathom that two decades have passed since the tragic day that forever changed the world for all of us. It’s also important to consider how, despite the profound impact that living through that day had on so many of us, for roughly 75 million Americans born since 9/11, the day to them is an event in history, something that must be learned about and studied to be understood.

And that is the aim of this memorial event: To educate students about 9/11 and to serve as a reminder that we all must never forget.

For its part, PESA has prepared a presentation about 9/11 that includes a welcome by Councilman Paul Koretz from Council District 5; a history of 9/11 and the symbolism of the Twin Towers by the Honorable David S. Wesley (ret.); a testimonial by a relative of a victim; a reading by Teen Court students and alumni of the names of 50 victims (all 2,977 names of people killed in the 9/11 and World Trade Center attacks will be read aloud by the 60 participating CBOs); and other moving tributes.

In return, PESA has received a 9/11 commemorative Flag of Honor bearing the names of all who perished.

The video presentation of this event can be seen by clicking here. We invite anyone interested to view the presentation, and we especially encourage educators to share it with their students. If you have any questions, please contact Araksya Nordikyan at araksya@pesa-edu.org
