UPark Reminder: There is no school for all DPS students October 12-16.

Principal

Thank you all for helping to make our UPark family conference week such a success. Over the past few years we have seen an even higher level of engagement in our parent teacher conferences, with nearly 100 percent attendance by families across the building. These conversations help ensure that we are all on the same page in supporting each and every one of our UPark Owls. I also want to send out a huge collective shout out to all of the parents who took the time to bring every single staff member one or two dinners this week. These small gestures of kindness really fill our buckets on our long conference days. Thank you so much for supporting all of us in so may different ways. We love our UPark community! Have a great fall break and we will see our Owls back and ready to learn on Tuesday!

PEARL WINE COMPANY TASTING EVENT SUPPORTING DPS AND UPARK

It is that time of year again! Each and every year Pearl Wine Company celebrates their Anniversary by hosting a tasting to raise money for DPS!! This year the tasting will be held November 4th at the Downtown Denver Sheraton.

PWC Anniversary Tasting will feature over 150 different wines from around the globe. This event is an amazing way to discover new favorites. The tasting is a walk around tasting with light meats and cheese provided.

The ticket cost is $65 per person and 100% of the tickets sold by the school goes directly back to the school - so if UPark sells 50 tickets it would be $3,250!

Just use this link, and select the UPark logo to buy a ticket to the event in support of UPark.

Restaurant Days at Taziki's Hampden

On October 25 and 26th, from noon-8pm, Taziki's Hampden will be donating a portion of sales back to our school. For dine-in or phone orders, please mention our school name. For online orders, please use promo code UPARK.

Taziki's will be donating a minimum of 15% of all UPark sales. If we hit 20 or more orders, they'll donate 20% of all sales. Anybody up for a challenge of lunch and dinner there, two days in a row?!?

BESS Social Emotional Student Screening

The window for families to fill out the BESS screener has been extended to October 20th!

BESS stands for Behavioral and Emotional Screening System and it is ~20 questions long aiming to assess our student’s behavioral and emotional wellness at school. Students in 3-5th grade will fill out a self-report form. Their teachers will also fill out a teacher rating form. Parents are also welcome to also fill out the parent rating form. Students K-2 will have their teachers fill out a form for them and we ask that parents also fill out a form for them. This is because K-2 students are too young to participate in a self-report of the BESS.

Please use this link to fill out the parent form - when you follow this link it will bring you to Review 360 and ask you for your students DPS ID number and date of birth.

All parent rating forms are due before October 13th. Teacher forms will be completed by teachers before this date as well. Student rating forms will be completed in your child’s classroom on October 3-5.

Guardians of students in grades 3-5

When you registered your child for this school year, there was a passive consent option with opt-out capabilities for the BESS self-report form. If you believe that you meant to opt your student out and are not sure you did, please contact Alexis Matter in the front office.

If you have any questions please contact jordan_mcelligott@dpsk12.net

Student Support Information

As you know DPS is dedicated to providing a safe and welcoming environment in every school for every student. At UPark we are also very focused on providing the social emotional supports that each and every student needs to thrive. As we are in the middle of administering our BESS social emotional screener to students, we want to remind everyone of the robust supports we have for students who might be internalizing events inside or outside of school. We are very fortunate to have a psychologist and a social worker this school year who work with students who need extra support. We also have an entire school full of adults who are dedicated to supporting each and every one of our Owls. We do know that from time to time students will leave school with something concerning on their minds about peer relationships, conflict or just school in general. If you ever see signs that your student is struggling, please reassure them that we have many adults at UPark, including the principal and assistant principal who are always working to ensure that they feel safe and supported at school. If you ever need to talk about what might be sitting with your student when they come home, feel free to reach out to your students teacher, school psychologist Jordan McElligott, school social worker Rachael Shine, Assistant Principal Natalie Jacobsen or Principal Eric Atonna. We are always here to listen and to support.

UPark Owl Ticket Students

Congratulations to this week's Owl Ticket students! They were recognized by their teachers for above and beyond positive behavior.

Owl Tickets are given to students for going above and beyond in one of our five core values: caring, cooperation, responsibility, respect and joy. Owl Tickets focus on the school's trait of the month, give students a chance to participate in the weekly "Owl Tickets" photo and will be posted on the "UPARK" letters in our main hallway.
