Sunday, May 2, 2021:
The Fifth Sunday of Easter and the Blessing of Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Statue.

As we continued to celebrate the awesome joys and splendor of Easter, we had a glorious moment to honor Mary, our Blessed Mother on the first Sunday of her month, the month of May. The connection of our Blessed Mother to Easter is integral: she said "yes" to God's Word and she was right at the Cross with Jesus and is now eternally with Him in his glory.

During our Holy Mass, Fr Joseph blessed our new pilgrim statue of our Lady of Fatima, which was perched on a float decorated with a garden variety of Spring flowers.
Easter flowers for our Lady!
Immediately after Holy Mass, we processed with Our Lady of Fatima statue around the block as we prayed the Glorious Mysteries. Then gathering around an outdoor altar where the statue was placed, we continued praying and singing, as 6 year old Nonachi Anyanwu crowned our Lady as our queen and Mother. As a prelude to this, her 9 year old brother, Sogidechi read a poem to our Lady (below)

The Coronation of Mary

A great sign appeared in the sky:
a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
and on her head,
a crown of twelve stars.
The woman is Mary,
the one God chose
as the first to be purified
by the blood of the cross;
the one who said yes
to God’s Word,
and the one in whom
the Word became flesh;
the one who carried Jesus
in her womb, and in her arms,
and in her heart;
the one Jesus gave to us,
saying, “Behold, your mother”;
and the one who leads us
to say yes to her son,
so that his Word
becomes embodied in us.

After the May Crowning, we gathered for barbecue in the parking lot to celebrate Fr Joseph's twice postponed and much anticipated birthday.
