Emergency Preparedness Plan For Fires

As a reminder, when you hear a fire alarm…

  1. Always assume that it could be a real fire unless otherwise announced.
  2. Call Mercer Police (478-301-2911) or the local police (911).
  3. Quickly exit the building, closing the doors as you leave.
  4. Move to your campus-designated safe zone and await instructions from Mercer police or the fire department.
  • Columbus: Meet at the side of the large parking lot.
  • Macon: Meet at the back parking lot area by the soccer field
  • Savannah: Meet in the Children’s Hospital parking lot

For your safety and to allow emergency services quick access to the building, please do not congregate by the building or in the driving lanes of the parking lot.

If it is determined to be a false alarm, the alarm will be silenced, and Mercer Police or the fire department will instruct employees and students when they can return to the building.

Food Insecurity in School

In a 2019 study, researchers found that out of 855 first-year college students, 19% were food insecure and 25.3% were at risk of becoming food insecure. Food insecurity happens when one lacks access to sufficient or quality food. Many schools report that undergraduate and professional students are being affected by food insecurity which can impact their performance in school.

If you or someone you know is experiencing food insecurity, we encourage you to reach out to the Office of Student Affairs for help. You can also visit, volunteer, or donate to a local food pantry.
