Message from EVC Simmons
Dear Colleagues,

I want to express my thanks to the many of you who have been reaching out this week to assist the students, faculty, staff, scholars, and researchers who have been directly or indirectly impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the attendant violence and chaos in the region. The technical, academic, and counseling support you have provided to your fellow Tritons has been invaluable. Given that this crisis has arisen at an already stressful time near the end of the Winter quarter, your continued compassion will be greatly appreciated by students and colleagues.

Our intellectual strength as an institution reflects the connections we forge across disciplines, among community and industry partners, and with colleagues around the world. In difficult times like these, it is especially important that we keep in mind the essential roles our students, colleagues, and collaborators originally from other nations play in our academic life. Our artistic insights, societal analyses, and scientific discoveries are inestimably deepened by the perspectives and contributions of our colleagues just across the local border with Mexico or in far-flung time zones on other continents.

I appreciate the thoughtful ways in which you have been maintaining the cohesion of our academic community in the face of this latest crisis, and indeed during all the challenges of the last two years.

Best regards,

Elizabeth H. Simmons

Academic Affairs Space Request Form

The Academic Affairs Space Planning & Facilities Unit provides assistance and expertise to all units developing short and long-term strategies related to the effective management of space and facility utilization. This unit also serves as a representative and liaison of the EVC in the planning, budgeting, designing, construction, and outfitting of facilities.

As part of our commitment to deliver improvements to the space planning request process, we have updated the Space Planning & Facilities web page and launched a new Academic Affairs Space Request Form. This space request form should be completed for new or incremental space needs within Academic Affairs. This information is used by the Academic Affairs leadership to understand the specific need and activities to occur in the assigned space, how the space will support the campus, and a description of people that will actually work in the assigned space.

For more information, please refer to the Space Planning & Facilities web page or send inquiries to AcademicAffairsSpace@ucsd.edu. We will continue to make improvements and welcome your valuable feedback.
Meet the Class Video
UC San Diego presents “Meet The Class” to inform and inspire our collective work as educators through a shared understanding of our incoming students’ diversity of interest, aspirations, goals, and culture. The project foregrounds incoming student testimonials with all educators across campus, including faculty, staff, administrators, and students. All educators can use the video to spark equity-minded innovation in pedagogy, student engagement, and lifelong success. The video project was a collaborative effort between Student Affairs and Educational Innovation.
