From the Minister
Dear KC Community,
I hope to see you on Sunday morning, or hope you catch us on Zoom or YouTube; our gospel word is a difficult one this weekend. We will be reminded of the metaphor of God as our cornerstone, and will be challenged by the call to bear fruit of God's realm/kingdom/kin-dom.
The parable from the 21st chapter of Matthew pulls directly from the text of the first part of Isaiah (chapter 5), but read at a surface level, shows the reader or hearer only the judgment of God. The goal will be to look beyond judgement and accountability from divine power, and to wonder about the challenging concept of working "to [be] a people that produces fruits of the kingdom." We will consider how this relates to Indigenous Peoples' Day and will also use famous words from Rumi to ground and guide us.
Come for community. Come for solace.
With faith,
Sam

From the Bench
This Sunday, we open and close with César Franck's lovely Prélude, Fugue et Variation. The choir will sing William Billings' Sublimity, based on Psalm 19, and Ken Berg's rocking arrangement of the spiritual My God is a Rock.

Parish House Open House
Saturday, Oct 14, 10:00- 11:30 AM, 64 Beacon Street
Please join us for an Open House at our Parish House at 64 Beacon Street. While this invitation is an effort to get folks into our community who maybe have wondered what goes on at the Parish House, you are also invited as a KC member! We plan to have our refinished nursery set up by that day, and we'll also have pumpkins to carve.
If you would like to volunteer to greet, give tours, or help with pumpkin-carving, please email Sam. We hope to see you!

Next Environmental Conversation: Spirituality and the Environmental Crisis
Monday, October 16, 5:00- 6:15 PM on Zoom
We will continue our conversation on the excerpt from Thich Nhat Hanh's Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet. At our September meeting, we watched an excerpt of a talk by TNH on the concept of interbeing. We heard from our senior minister Joy Fallon on the significance of TNH's work and also from member Steve Fisher on his experience at retreats at TNH's centers. We broke into small groups for discussion.
Thich Nhat Hahn comes from a wisdom tradition that traverses religions. Our plan is to dig deeper into the concepts and practices advocated by TNH and listen to one another's experiences. Have any of us found that meditation and mindfulness can truly change how we relate to the environmental crisis? What is the relationship of TNH's teachings to Christianity?
Contact reception@kings-chapel.org to get an electronic or paper copy of our reading, which is a short excerpt from the book.

Sandwiches for common cathedral
Last Sunday, King’s Chapel once again joined our friends at common cathedral, making and distributing sandwiches as well as joining in their weekly worship service on the Common with our housed and unhoused brothers and sisters.
This Sunday was a bit of an adventure, as car trouble kept coordinator Amanda Pickett from steering the ship. But KC members stepped up and all went smoothly. Many thanks to all who took part!

Fall Hill Fest on Oct 1
We had great participation at Hill Fest this past weekend! Many thanks to Wendy and Sarah, who helped us with face painting, and to Dan Perry, who shared his musical talents with our neighbors. We had a fun time engaging young adults with a raffle for the Candlelight Crypt tours and had a good number of young parents interested in King's Chapel. Let's be ready to welcome any new folks at either worship service over the next few weeks!
