Issue No. 21-01
Message from NCALA President & CEO
February? 2021? Already? We look to the remainder of 2021 with an optimistic view of the horizon. Our hope is that our residents are safer after receiving the vaccine and providers and staff can hopefully work within a more stable environment without the constant stress of pandemic communications, changes, and financial impacts. NCALA staff are busy finalizing our grant obligations and deliveries of PPE, testing, technology, and sneeze guards to all NC Adult and Family Care Homes. Additionally, we are planning relevant and interesting training opportunities, in the process of mapping out a Spring virtual conference, and gathering details to make the in-person Fall Conference & Trade Show possible. NCALA is also working hard to connect our providers with educators and workforce development resources so that we can all build a talent pipeline for the future while addressing the dire workforce shortages within the assisted living industry now.

Sincerely,
Frances Messer
NCALA President & CEO

Southern Pharmacy Brings a Bit of Fun
to Difficult Times
Southern Pharmacy is offering a program to provide a bit of entertainment to your residents! To help relieve the loneliness and boredom that the pandemic’s quarantine restrictions have brought to your residents, their marketing/customer service teams have created and distribute activity books filled with puzzles and pages to color as well as games such as “Wellness Bingo” and “Meet Your Neighbor Bingo.” Pens and colored pencils are included as well as personal notes with words of encouragement. See the flyer here.
2021 Legislative Agenda and the NCALA PAC
As the NC General Assembly returns to session, we are excited to announce the arrival of our new lobbyist, Jim Harrell. We will be having a webinar to introduce Jim and to discuss NCALA’s 2021 legislative agenda and advocacy efforts on February 10. You can register here (members ONLY).

NCALA will be asking legislators for coronavirus relief funds to off-set onboarding training and workforce costs for employers. We also are seeking more funding for technology to be used within assisted living communities, further reducing social isolation and increasing resident engagement.

We ask that all NCALA members consider donating via personal credit card or check any amount that they feel comfortable contributing. You can donate online here NOW.

Provider Relief Funds Documentation Requirements
HHS has taken the next step towards requiring providers who received more than $10,000 in Provider Relief Funds to document how those funds were used. On January 15, 2021, a portal was opened so providers can register to receive notice regarding when and how documentation will need to be submitted in the future. New reporting requirement guidance was also issued on the date the portal was open. Read more here.
