2023 Conservation Highlights
Improving our region’s ecosystems and quality of life
750 new acres protected, 700 acres more in-the-works
Received generous multi-year grants underwriting our Stewardship Program by the Makowski Trust and an anonymous donor for additional stewardship staff and major equipment needs to implement work.
Protected more wetlands that help safeguard our drinking water, create natural places for wildlife to flourish, and reduce the impact of severe storm floodings.
Expanded footprint of an existing forest by another 102 acres in a critical habitat wildlife area known for golden-winged warblers. Restored habitats for over 111 at-risk species.
Implementing local conservation projects with global impacts
Winnakee’s protected lands kept stored 447,840 metric tons of CO₂ and continue to sequester an additional 8,960 metric tons from the atmosphere each year.
