Changes at the Board of Examiners
Marijke Edmondson, Strategic Advisor in the Local Government Division, Ministry of Municipal Affairs has been appointed as the Board Chair at the Board of Examiners. As a new appointee, Ms. Edmonson is joined by Linda Glenday, CAO for the District of Squamish a Board Member representing the LGMA. Read more
Rent Bank impact report
The BC Rent Bank has released its 2021-2022 Impact Report, detailing how rent banks have improved housing stability for renters, in partnership with wide-ranging partners including local governments. The BC Rent Bank was established in 2019 as a pilot project with a three-year mandate to support existing rent banks and establish new ones. It has now achieved 100% provincial coverage, ensuring access to rent bank services for all BC renters.
Study session on climate change & Asset Management
Asset Management BC is delivering a workshop focused on the environmental influences on asset management in BC. The session, entitled Natural Capital, will be led by AMBC’s Doug Allin, CAO of the Township of Spallumcheen. Read more
Climate and Energy Awards
Local governments are encouraged to apply for the Community Energy Association’s 2022 Climate and Energy Awards. Nominations are open until July 8 in three categories:Community Planning & Development, Corporate Operations, and Climate Adaptation. Winners will be announced during an awards ceremony at the UBCM Convention.
Survey on provincial COVID-19 response
The provincial government is seeking additional feedback on their response to Covid-19. Local governments can complete the survey to assist the Province in understanding what went well, what could have been improved, and what changed during the course of the pandemic in the government’s response. The survey will be open until June 30.
Rail safety funding information session
Transport Canada is presenting an information session for local governments on key points to consider when applying for funding through the Rail Safety Improvement Program (RSIP). The session will also touch on the requirements of the Rail Safety Grade Crossings Regulations (GCR) and the revised GCR compliance deadline. Read more
