Woodchase Park Construction Enters Final Phase


Woodchase Park has entered the landscaping phase with Maiden Grass, Sandi Leaf Fig Ivy, Allee Elms and Fringe Trees now planted in the ground around the park as construction nears completion. A water misting feature has been installed and will be a fun draw in the Children's Play Space, along with shredded rubber surfacing and the synthetic turf system surrounded by concrete berm mounds. Community Impact Award Nominations Open for 2021 


In a time where many continue to make a difference in the community, Westchase District needs your help to bring recognition to these individuals or companies. Nominations are now open for the District's annual Community Impact Awards.

We invite you to tell us who has inspired you and made a positive impact in the following categories: beautification, business or economic development, community dedication/spirit, transportation, politics and public safety.

We've made the nomination process easier with an easy-to-complete online form which is due by October 29, 2021. A judging panel will select three finalists who exemplify the best from our community. Award winners will be recognized at a 2022 (date TBD) meeting of the Westchase District Advisory Board. 



West Houston Assistance Ministries Faith, Hope and Love Benefit Luncheon Rescheduled Date Set


West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) is hosting a major fundraiser to celebrate 40 years of providing hope. A previously announced date has been moved to Thursday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. That's when WHAM will host its Faith, Hope, and Love benefit luncheon at Lakeside Country Club at 100 Wilcrest Dr. Luncheon chairs Mike Duvall and Sydney Free join emcee Frank Billingsley.

Houston media icon Bill Balleza delivers the keynote at Faith, Love, and Hope.
The luncheon features keynote speaker Bill Balleza, an Emmy award-winning reporter and former news anchor at KPRC 2 Houston whose career spanned 45 years.

WHAM will recognize CenterPoint Energy with the Community Builder Award and also announce Penrod Volunteer Award honorees Loretta Haren, Alice Hastings-James, and Jim Kilmoyer at the event. Tickets and sponsorships are available. Contact Mercedes Santos-Garay for more information.

Pick Up Colorful Handicrafts at My Lola Bag 

Vibrant colors and dynamic patterns are eye-grabbing at My Lola Bags. 

Sebastian Delgado is a farmers market vendor who hails from Colombia and operates My Lola Bag. Delgado sells unique 100% handmade products by indigenous women in Colombia. "They are members of a tribe called the Wayuu tribe who make beautiful, colorful, and high quality crochet woven products," said Delgado. "We have bags in different sizes, colors, patterns, and styles. Our product list also includes bracelets, and sandals which are very popular now."  

Delgado describes each Wayuu bag as exclusively hand-woven by one of the many women of the Wayuu tribe. Serving as leaders of their household is a characteristic of the Wayuu women. They dedicate their lives to teaching their daughters and sons the traditions and skills of weaving the Wayuu bags.

Quillian Center Kicks Off Fall 2021 Sports   

Quillian Center has the perfect indoor sports for this fall. Burn carbs and stay fit during lunch time by hitting the court. Refine your dribbling, jump and three point shots, lay ups and passing skills with Lunch Time Hoops every Tuesday and Thursday beginning next week September 14 from 11:30 a.m.  - 1:30 p.m. For $2 per person, you can use the center's basketball court.

If Pickle Ball is more of your forte, Quillian brings Open Play Pickle Ball every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, beginning next week, Sept. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is $4 per person. Advanced Pickle Ball will be held evenings on Tuesday from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. Year-round cost is $4 per person. nonPareil Drive-In Movie Event Fundraiser 
Features Avengers: Infinity Wars


A night under the stars will raise funds and awareness for nonPareil Houston's programs on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Gates open at 6 p.m. and a screening of Avengers: Infinity Wars begins at 8 p.m. at Moonstruck Drive-In 100 Bringhurst St. There will be food trucks, concessions, a costume contest, raffle prizes, and an auction. nonPareil Houston's campus is located at 10675 Richmond Ave. The institute's mission is to improve futures for adults with autism and meet the needs of the increasing autism community.
