September 13 - Platte County Federated Women’s Democratic Club - 5:30 p.m. Platte County Resource Center, 11724 NW Plaza Circle, KCMO. Speakers will be Charles West, candidate for 6th District and John DeFoor, candidate for Platte Co. Commissioner.

September 16 - Platte County Democratic Central Committee will meet at Platte County Resource Center, 11724 NW Plaza Circle, KCMO, 7:00 pm..

September 21 - Northland Democratic Club, ACA Business Club, 1400 NW Vivion Road, KCMO. 6:30 pm. Speaker will be Stephen Melton from the Citizens Climate Lobby.

Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club
Platte County Federated Women's Democratic Club met August 9th at Platte Resource Center.

Chris Hershey, Platte County Board of Elections, spoke about the bipartisan aspects of all activities, including office staff, federal laws that mandate voter registrations cards be sent out every 2 years, how voters are removed from lists after missing two federal elections, and demonstrated the Voter Registration application on phones and the success of absentee voting this past election.

Elizabeth Murtagh-Yaw was installed as secretary, as she was unable to attend last month. Treasurer Tracy Holthous reported 24 paid members this year so far.

Sharon Aring presented fund raising and promotional aspects of selling buttons--that are not candidate related. Group approved request and hopefully they will be available for October 16th.

Sharen Hunt discussed the Fall Family Event October 16th at Alldredge Orchard and possible role of raffle ticket and registration/welcome for our club.

Members signed up to work the Voter Registration during Parkville Days with League of Women Voters August 20 and 21 at American Legion, Parkville.

Platte Country Democratic Central Committee
The Platte County Democratic Central Committee met on August 19 at the Platte County Resource Center.

Paula Willmarth reported via proxy through Chair David Christian that the 8th annual Truman Dinner to honor our first responders, union and frontline workers will be held as a virtual Zoom meeting on September 12, 2021 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Central time. Guest speakers will be U. S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and DNC Chairman Jamie Harrison. For ticket information go to www.TrumanDinner.org.

Sharen Hunt provided a report on plans for the October 16 Alldredge Orchard Event. The event will be from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Tickets purchased in advance will be Adults $20.00 in advance and $25 at the door, Kids 5-12 $5.00, kids under 5 free. We plan to invite all known candidates and current elected officials. Candidates will be introduced and encouraged to visit with guests but there will be no speeches. We plan to have a raffle. We hope to have items for the raffle available at the September meeting. Promotions will be via local papers, email lists, Eventbrite,Facebook, League of Women Voters, Northland Democrats, KC Parent, Northland Neighbors and Northland Neighborhoods, flyers and save the date notices. Sharen also reported that the Women’s Club plans to sell Democratic buttons and will supply a table for candidates to display literature and donation envelopes.

The events committee also recommended ordering PCDCC business cards with the website and Post Office Box address and Facebook information to make it easier to let people know how to find us. The cards will not have individual names. They will be printed at a union shop. The PCDCC voted to order business cards with the outline of Platte County and the flag.

There were several guests present including John DeFoor, candidate for Platte County Presiding Commissioner. Guest Meredith Peace expressed interest in becoming a member of the Central committee. She agreed to be nominated to represent District 13-2. The Central Committee voted unanimously to approve her nomination. Welcome Meredith!

Northland Democratic Club
The Northland Democratic Club met at the ACA Club on August 17th. Vice Chair Henry Martin, Candidate for U. S. 6th Congressional District chaired the meeting in the absence of Chair John DeFoor, Candidate for Platte County Presiding Commissioner.

Guest speakers were Scott Sifton, candidate for the United States Senate https://scottsifton.com and Charles West, candidate for the United States House of Representatives 6th Congressional District https://charleswestforcongress.org.

Getting Started in Missouri Politics
On August 5, Ashley Aune, our 14th District State Representative, gave an excellent public presentation on "Getting Started in Missouri Politics". A video of the event can be viewed here.
Night at The Elms - Clay County Democrats
The Clay County Democratic Central Committee’s annual fund raiser “Night at the Elms” was hosted on August 7th. Featured speakers were Mayor Quinton Lucas, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver and Keynote Address: Former Governor Jay Nixon.
