There’s a wise expression that I’m fond of, attributed to golfer Walter Hagen – “take time to stop and smell the roses”. That “smell” can be a flower, fresh air, or the not so fresh air from the skunk that sauntered into your yard one evening.

But what about our other senses? Do we take the time to enjoy the pleasant sights and sounds as we rush from here to there? A family park outing can satisfy those senses and bicycling past open farm fields and vistas certainly offers “eye candy”, not to mention the enjoyment of a butterfly garden. Then there’s the taste of locally grown fruits and vegetables purchased at a farmer’s market. Almost everything we do involves the sense of touch. Just observe a child outdoors and you’ll see.

Get “sense-able”, go outside.

Sincerely,
