Quarterly News from Kansas SHRM

March 2022

Hello HR Leaders,

When I think of the previous months and what we all have gone through both personally and professionally, I can think of no better word. The power or ability of a material to return to its original form, position, state, after being bent, compressed, or stretched is the definition of resilience. We have all been stretched and likely bent but it is our resilience that will push us forward in 2022 to continue to do our best.

As HR professionals we are dealing with new situations every day, ones most of us had never considered. The organizations we work for are looking to their Human Resource Leaders to help provide the answers. We must step up and instill confidence and trust in our workforces. Kansas SHRM will commit to providing the best programs and resources we can to support all of our HR colleagues across the state.

Moving ahead in 2022 we will all need support in some fashion and what better way than to volunteer and join your local SHRM Chapter or State Council and grow your professional network. Being a part of a team feels good and will surely add value. Together we can do great things.

A Letter from Jenny Locanthi

Dear KSSHRM,

I have some exciting news to share that, unfortunately, impacts my ability to finish this year in the Past Director/Awards and State Conference Co-chair positions for KSSHRM.

I have been a volunteer leader for SHRM since almost the beginning of my HR career - those roles, the education that came along with them and of course the amazing people I've met and have served alongside have been a HUGE part of my professional journey and one that has always been a bright spot when things get tough. We truly have such an amazing community of HR professionals and there is SO much we can learn from one another and from our service in volunteer leader roles.

All of that said - I have always dreamed of actually working for SHRM and am SO excited that day has nearly arrived! I am thrilled to let you know that I will be joining the team at SHRM national as a Field Services Director! In my role, I will be serving HR professionals, chapters and state councils in a collection of states in the Eastern half of the US and working to advance the HR profession in ways I've only begun to learn about. So very thankful and energized for this opportunity and the adventure ahead!

It has been my pleasure to serve on the KSSHRM board over the last 7 years and I have no doubt that our paths will cross again!

Wishing you all the very best and hoping to see you at SHRM22 this summer!

Warmly,

Jenny Locanthi

NEW SHRM CERTIFICATION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

SHRM certification eligibility criteria got a big makeover for 2022. If you perform HR duties of any kind, you could be a candidate. Here’s what you need to know…

You can apply to take the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification exam if you:

  1. Have general HR-related responsibilities primarily in an operational role, such as implementing policies, serving as the HR point of contract, or performing day-to-day HR functions; or
  2. Have a working knowledge of HR principles and practices; or
  3. Are pursuing a career in the field of HR.

The SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) requirements has also changed. You are now eligible for the SHRM-SCP exam if you:

  1. Have at least 3 years of HR work-related experience primarily in a strategic role (developing policies, overseeing the execution of integrated HR operations, directing the entire HR enterprise, or leading the alignment of HR strategies to organizational goals); or
  2. Have held the SHRM-CP credential for at least 3 years, and have acquired strategic-level work experience or are pursuing a strategic-level role.

Still not sure you have the knowledge base you need to pursue certification? Check out the new SHRM Body of Applied Skills and KnowledgeTM (SHRM BASKTM), formerly the SHRM Body of Competency and Knowledge® (BoCK®). The SHRM BASK explains the key concepts of each competency and provides proficiency indicators for all HR professionals and proficiency indicators that are specific to the advanced HR professional.
