The National Association of African American Parents and Youth (NAAAPY) presents the 2nd Annual  Black Family Summit: The New Face of Black Education on March 5, 2024, from 8 am to 5 pm at the California Endowment Center. The first conference was so successful that the 2nd annual conference is set to reach 66% more attendees.

Keynote Speaker, Educator, and Author Dante D. King has published his eye-opening book The 400-Year Holocaust: White America’s Legal, Psychopathic, and Sociopathic Black Genocide - and the Revolt Against Critical Race Theory.  King will explore the impacts Anglo-European religious philosophies and belief systems had on establishing legality and religion and how these guiding tools shaped and reinforced the psychology of Whiteness and what we know and recognize as American culture.  King is not just an educator, author, and speaker. He is a community activist whose research is set to empower people and change the face of Black education.

Finally, the afternoon keynote speaker, Dr. Chike Akua, is a published author of 15 books and a leader in education. Dr. Akua understands we are experiencing an educational crisis, and there is a need for educational empowerment. Dr. Akua shares his research and the steps to turn our homes and educational institutions into tools for academic achievement and social change. Dr Akua and Mr King will lead the Black Family Summit 2024, supported by dynamic workshop leaders; this is a must-attend summit.

Black Family University 2024 is coming!

It is my sincerest pleasure to introduce myself to you. I am Yolande Beckles, President and Co-founder of the National Association of African American Parents and Youth, a national organization of Black parents and educators founded with the mission of helping Black families, parents and guardians attain high-quality and equitable education for their children. We empower families by training them to advocate for the needs of their children in the classroom, how to actively participate in their children’s education, and support Black students by offering them culturally specific and pedagogically relevant methods for their enrichment. While we have a national reach, our primary work has been serving the families of LAUSD.

Black Family University provides parents with knowledge, ensuring they are trained and educated. It provides easily accessible and culturally relevant information about the education system, college preparation, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities. Enhancing students’ academic success through resources, tutoring, and study guides to improve academic performance and foster a positive learning environment. My background as a Parent Expert for the past 35 years and that of the founder has led to this foundational program for Black families, parents, guardians and kinship caregivers.

The NAAAPY team’s 200+ years of cumulative experience ensures we have the knowledge to develop our families and community into successful, involved, and engaged advocates who develop whole and loving children. We are booking training sessions for 2024 now. The Foundational Curriculum is attached, which we believe all participants must attend first. The second course will be offered later in the year as a follow-up to the initial program. Please join our mailing list to be alerted early about our second course!

If you have any questions about the program, please do not hesitate to contact Yolande Beckles at naaapy2022@gmail.com to see more of our work or visit our website at https://www.naaapy.org.

We look forward to hearing from you soon,

Yolande Beckles

WEEKLY RECAPs

Lines in the Dust

Hosted by: Dr Ryan Smith & Dr Alicia Montgomery

Thank you, Dr Alicia Montgomery, for the invitation to such a moving and powerful play! For black women as mothers and children within America’s education system, it was beautiful to be in a room of social activists in the field of education. Also, anti-blackness was the central topic of discussion among the audience afterwards. If this play returns in 2024, this will be an excellent event for all NAAAPY members to attend.
