DIRECTOR'S CUP
Cheery Friday Greetings,
It has been quite a positive week for libraries, between the vaccination program opening up to library workers and the $200 million that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) will soon receive to distribute to states and territories as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. One year into the pandemic, I find myself feeling cheerfully optimistic and looking forward to libraries moving forward with the vital programs and services that they will offer--and continue to offer--to their communities.
There is also one more week for you to comment on SCRLC's draft 2021-2026 Plan of Service, which was posted last week. You may comment in the document or email suggestions to me. If you need access, let me know. Please review and comment between now and March 18. The Plan must be submitted to the State Library by April 1 for approval, and will take effect on July 1
Thanks to everyone who helped with its development! You may have helped by serving on the Plan of Service Design Team (this group worked tirelessly for 7 months!), or by attending one of the regional meetings or annual meetings, through the membership or various needs assessment surveys, Board or advisory committee input--or maybe via all of those avenues!
As a result of the process, the Plan is member-driven and relevant to your needs and those of your community. Also through your input, we have a better idea of your needs and how you interact with our programs and services.
Changing the topic to library advocacy for a moment--it is not too late to contact your legislators in support of increased library aid. Visit the New York Library Association's Advocacy section to learn more about the "asks" and issues--and to conveniently take action. Thank you!
Yours in partnership,
Mary-Carol Lindbloom
Executive Director
