Introduction: March is a time of new starts

The arrival of March starts a season of new beginnings. We've already reset the clocks for Daylight Saving Time, Spring officially begins on Sunday, and March Madness gives fans a burst of hope for a strong finish.

We at Enroll Wyoming have been energized thanks to the start of a new special enrollment period along with our ongoing outreach efforts to connect with community-minded partners and individuals and families who need health insurance.
Our excitement is also boosted as we look forward to upcoming milestones. 2022 will see the 12th anniversary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the 10-year anniversary of open enrollment. During the last enrollment session, Enroll Wyoming helped raise Wyoming participation in the Health Insurance Marketplace to more than 34,000 people, an increase of 30 percent, which has prompted us to aim even higher.

Between the seeds that we're planting now and the strong growth cultivated by those who have come before, we expect a fruitful harvest that will lead to healthier homes across Wyoming.

We give thanks for the support we've received and look forward to what we will do together in this new season.

Special enrollment: Are you
lucky enough to qualify?
The end of open enrollment isn't the end of all enrollment. Many people are still eligible to sign up for health insurance through special enrollment periods. SEPs are designed to help people who have experienced life-changing events and/or are in need of assistance.

There is no cost to talk to an Enroll Wyoming Navigator to see if you are eligible under the dozens of possible qualifications.

For example, a new SEP has been established for those whose income is between 100-150 percent of the federal poverty level. The level can vary from home to home as it is based on a household's size and income.
Below is the range for a four-member family household along with a QRC code that can be scanned to learn more information about other qualifying levels.
In addition to the SEP based on the FPL, many people qualify for a special enrollment period if they or someone in their household has experienced one of these common occurrences in the past 60 days:

-- Lost health insurance
-- Got married
-- Gave birth, adopted a child, or placed a child for foster care
-- Got divorced or legally separated and lost health insurance
-- Died
-- Changed residence
-- Gained membership in a federally recognized tribe or status as an Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) Corporation shareholder
-- Became a U.S. citizen
-- Left incarceration
Check if you qualify for an SEP here.

Soliciting success stories
We are asking for help as we prepare to celebrate the 10th anniversary of open enrollment. We are gathering stories relating how the Health Insurance Marketplace, affordable and comprehensive coverage, and related efforts have impacted both individual lives and communities in Wyoming.

We've already heard accounts of how enrollment has reduced financial pressure on families, freed up money for new opportunities, and provided for life-saving surgeries. We're touched by these testimonies and want to read more.

Please send the stories you're willing to share -- short, long, epic -- to caleb@enrollwyo.org.
Remember Women's History Month
March is Women's History Month. This gives Wyoming residents a chance to boast about the Equality State's contributions to women's suffrage, such as being the first territory and later state to grant women the same rights as men -- including the right to vote, serve in public office, and own and inherit property.
And the bragging shouldn't stop there. Wyoming women have recorded many noteworthy firsts and other accomplishments that deserve to be remembered and heralded.
In addition to the links provided, here are some book titles to consider if you want to dig deeper into the West's rich history:
"When Esther Morris Headed West: Women, Wyoming and the Right to Vote" by Connie Nordhielm Wooldridge is a children's book about Wyoming's first woman judge. Her election and service in South Pass City led to some pushback, but it also changed the minds of some of her critics. A monument was established in her honor and the time when "a thing bigger and better than gold happened.
Virginia Sharaff's "Twenty Thousand Roads: Women, Movement, and the West" chronicles how women were essential to the marking and making of the land.
As Grace Raymond Hebard, the historian, child rights advocate, and suffragette supporter, said, "Women and wagons were not only suggestive of our nation's development, but were a permanent factor in the earliest development of the civilization of the nation."
The literal trailblazers established new paths and opportunities for those who followed.
The women of the West set a foundation and example so that each generation can build on their works and reach new heights.
Health spotlight: Identifying misinformation
Expanding on earlier efforts to provide over-the-counter coronavirus tests to the public, another round of free tests has been made available.
Whether you already took advantage of the initial offer in February or if this is the first time you're applying for the free tests, simply visit www.covidtests.gov to request free COVID-19 tests. You may also call 1-800-232-0233 (TTY 1-888-720-7489) to place an order.
For more information on the free tests, click here.
Tax reminder: No fine? No fine!
Thanks to revisions to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, there is no longer a financial penalty for not having health insurance.
The law has undergone many changes since it was signed into law on March 23, 2010.
Since January 1, 2019, there has been no federal-government imposed fine for not having health insurance. Similarly, Wyoming does not charge a fine for going without insurance.
Who is my friendly, knowledgeable Navigator?
Enroll Wyoming is a grant-funded program that educates individuals and families about their health insurance options. Even though our base of operations is in Cheyenne, Navigators are located throughout the Equality State. Let us know if your organization wants more information or would like to schedule a presentation or visit. Navigators are available in person, over the phone, or Zoom. We accommodate all stakeholders to the best of our ability. Those in need of health insurance can call and set up an appointment. Translation services are available.
