Luncheon Lecture: Redistricting the New Way
March 25
12 pm

In November 2018, Michigan voters approved the “Voters Not Politicians” constitutional amendment, which created a commission of 13 randomly selected citizens to draw district lines for the Michigan Senate, Michigan House of Representatives and U.S. Congress using the results of the decennial U.S. census. The Secretary of State serves as the commission’s non-voting secretary and administrator of the redistricting process. Sarah Reinhardt of the Michigan Department of State, appearing live via Zoom from Lansing, will give an update on the commission’s current work to redraw district maps and help us understand what it will mean for Michigan voters.

This program will be held via Zoom. Attendance is free, however pre-registration is required at HERE.

Charlevoix County Commission on Aging IMPORTANT UPDATE!
We are so excited to share that we will be REOPENING ALL of the Charlevoix County Senior Centers to the public on March 21, 2022 for our regular senior services INCLUDING DINING IN!

Masks will be recommended but not mandatory. We will continue to ask that those not feeling well or who are sick to please NOT come into the Senior Centers & if you do, please know you will be asked to leave to protect our Aging Adults and the Staff who serve you!

This decision was not made lightly and has the FULL support of the Charlevoix County Commissioners. Things that were taken under consideration to open were:
• MDHHS has rescinded the Mask Requirement for most indoor gatherings with a few exceptions
• The HDNW has rescinded the Mask Mandate in Schools
• Munson Healthcare has moved to Orange Pandemic Response Levels
• Only 20 Counties in MI are in the red right now.
• The Emergency Public Health Act ends on 4/16/22.
• According to the CDC on 3/8/22: Our Regional and County Positivity rates are quickly declining. Charlevoix County has gone from Red High Risk to Orange Substantial Risk. Charlevoix County 7 day positivity rate is down to 3.29% which is close to where we opened in July 2021. Deaths rates are down 100%. The % of the population greater than 65 years that is fully vaccinated is 87.4%. The % of the population greater than 65 years that is fully vaccinated with a booster is 77.4%.

Curbside will end on March 18, 2022, but there will be Take Out available for those not wanting to dine in. We will gradually be adding all other activities and entertainment back and plan to start Wednesday Night dinners June 1, 2022. Please contact your Site Coordinators for things you would like to see added or brought back.

Peace on Earth
From 2017 through 2019, Northern Community Mediation (NCM) placed two peace banners in the Charlevoix and Emmet County libraries on a rotating basis during the holidays. Because of COVID, the peace banners were not distributed in 2020 and 2021.

During a recent staff meeting, the staff was discussing the horror of the situation in Ukraine. A light bulb went on in the head of Case Manager Karen Cole. Why not make use of the peace banners now? With the exception of one caveat, it took only minutes for Case Manager Laura Buckingham and Executive Director Jane Millar to make the decision to go forward with the idea. Rotating the two banners among the libraries, however, did not make sense. Therefore, it was decided that NCM would bite the bullet and pay to have four more banners made so that the message of peace could be displayed at six of the local libraries continuously. All six banners were in the six libraries: Boyne City, Charlevoix, East Jordan, Harbor Springs, Pellston and Petoskey.

NCM asks that you take the time to go to your library, look at the peace banner and reflect upon what is happening in our world, specifically Ukraine. To see the full press release click HERE.

Credit Union Expands to Give Back More
Giving back is what we stand for, which is why 4Front Credit Union is pleased to introduce the community to the newly established 4Front Foundation.

Founded in 2021, the Foundation aids nonprofits in providing services to the community and supports education through scholarship and financial literacy programs. The Foundation also works to create innovative programs for our members while increasing our outreach and impact in the community.

“4Front has contributed more than $700,000 in community investment since our inception in 2015 and we’re extremely proud of that,” said 4Front Foundation Executive Director, Rachel Hunter. “We’re always looking at how we can do more to help our communities and establishing the foundation will allow us to do just that.”

The Foundation focuses on three pillars of giving; scholarships, financial wellness, and grants. It will operate as a separate entity from 4Front Credit Union and in addition to the credit union’s current community investment program. Organizers plan to hold several fundraisers for the Foundation in 2022 with a goal of awarding those dollars in 2023. Click HERE for the full press release.
