What a year it has been. We were joined together in early 2020 with a sense of uncertainty and fear. A mix of emotions that boiled down to a unanimous rally of “Let’s get to work,” and that was only March. This year saw the birth of the COVID-19 task force. A team assigned with the responsibility of devising a meticulous risk management plan for an unprecedented risk. Despite the uncharted territory, our team delivered. We were able to implement the necessary measures, and in huge numbers. Twelve-hundred hours of contact tracing have been performed for any situation that has warranted review, 400,000+ daily temperature checks executed at our jobsites and main office, and countless other procedures put into place to protect the health and safety of the over 1,500 personnel, tradespeople, and partners on-site every day at our projects, all while minimizing the impact to project costs and schedules.
We have always held our team, from president to project manager and estimator to laborer, to the highest expectations, but this year we have asked so much more of everyone. Not only from our employees, but from our joint venture partners and subcontactors.

Their rapid response and keen adaptability has allowed us to continue to deliver the product our clients deserve, while always keeping health and safety at the forefront.
The last 12 months have brought the completion of some very exciting projects we feel privileged to be a part of including an intricate renovation at the Four Seasons Chicago, to an exciting residential project in the Midtown neighborhood of Nashville, and the unparalleled St. Regis in Lakeshore East. Some of the projects completed, like the riser valve replacement in the historic 1242 Lakeshore Dr, or build out of a state of the art spin room at the East Bank Club, are a surprise to many that this type of work has long been in our wheelhouse (just not always in the news).
With the new year comes new hope; renewed passion and optimism. We have been inspired by our clients and partners perseverance and hope we have demonstrated the same. We move into this new chapter with new standards, new procedures and the same to desire to do what we do best: BUILD.

While we cannot fully express our gratitude to all of these heroes, McHugh did our best to support them in a number of ways throughout the year. Early on we delivered lunch from local restaurants to hospitals and police and fire stations on the south and west sides of Chicago along with Nashville, and later on we donated 400 pieces of winter apparel to the aforementioned first responders. We donated laptops to ECCSC in support of their community education and rehabilitation efforts, and continued our unwavering support of The 100 Club of Chicago. During the COVID-19 pandemic the City lost 11 first responders including 3 due to medical emergencies. The 100 Club continues to step up, paying each family $50k and providing scholarships for the surviving children to attend college or post grad school. McHugh has supported this great organization for over a decade.

As we begin 2021, we at McHugh are proud and thankful of all that we were able to accomplish in 2020, even as difficult as the year was for the world, and we look forward to the great things to come in 2021.
Our core values allowed us to continue to build great projects in both Chicago and Nashville. In one of the most difficult years our country has ever faced, we built, as we have for more than 100 years, wonderful homes for people, breathtaking towers, gorgeous hotels, totally transformational renovations, restaurants and all sorts of other structures. We did so while proactively managing and leading through the tremendous new difficulties from COVID-19. We have grown stronger from our success meeting the challenges of 2020.

It is our amazing clients, our steadfast construction community and our brave incredibly talented employees who inspire us as we look forward to 2021. Our clients, new and long established, continue to trust our company with their most critical and innovative projects big and small and in Chicago, Nashville and other markets. With McHugh’s community of incredible employees, partners and subcontractors, we will continue to deliver the results our clients demand. We look back with pride at the great things we accomplished together in 2020 and look forward to building great things together in 2021 and beyond.
