Congratulations on Another Win for the LSC Cybersecurity Team!
Two weekends ago, the LSC Cybersecurity Team competed in the Midwest Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MWCCDC) Regional Wildcard event along with 11 other teams from the Midwest region. Following up on their 3rd place Minnesota State CCDC event, the LSC team was ready to try top teams from schools like Purdue University, Missouri State University and Louisville in the annual Wildcard event where the top two teams move on to join the 9 state champions in the Erich J. Spengler MWCCDC Regional Finals on March 18 and 19. These events simulate a real business under active hacking attacks by professional hackers from Fortune 100 companies, where the 8 student teams are tasked with defending a business IT network while also performing business tasks to the best of their abilities. Defending the businesses critical services and completing the business tasks earn the student teams valuable points, with the highest scoring team winning.
After a very active and fun 8 hour event, the Lake Superior College Cybersecurity Team was able outscore the other 11 teams and win the event to secure a berth in the regional finals! This is only the third time that a team from LSC has made it to the Regional Finals (2014 and 2015) and is also the first time that a two year school has won the Regional Wildcard. Congrats to the Lake Superior College Cybersecurity Team for representing IceHawk Nation so well, and good luck at the Regional Finals!

Based on updated guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH), the Minnesota State system, and updated COVID-19 community levels from St. Louis County, Lake Superior College made masking optional as of Monday, March 7, 2022. Community levels in St. Louis County were reduced from a high level to a low level, allowing LSC to remove the mask mandate and instead make masking optional.
