November Themed Collective Poems
Novemberfest by 5M

See the mist
heavy in the air.
And trees, swaying in the distance
Green yelling
Against the red and orange;

Their last leaves falling to join the others,
scattering in every direction,
branches scratching at the morning fog.

The soft plink of a string, vibrating
a banjo, playing it’s folk music,
fingers drum on the hard wooden table, beating
and heating
while smoke rises from chimneys.

Winter air approaching,
cold hands reaching out,
causing a shiver.

Chatter rises in the air
My lips filled with warmth
of words flying, and laughter,
gentle humming.

How I hope to see snow
In the black sky soon.
November by 5B

Stinging winds,
red and orange leaves undulating
under the pressure.

Rich, glowing colors,
Beating their warmth on us together,
envelop us, as
temperatures drop to the rhythm of dancing oaks
and the golden sun hides behind the mountain.

Releasing their last effort to hold on,
colors are replaced in a merger with cold,
entwined like the
mahogany brown swaying of trees, or of clasped hands.

Now there is not much,
other than the cold.
And a deep, hollow pounding in my heart,
a cave like contentment.

For once, there are no unkind words,
No stony silences
November has a way of making us kinder.

I keep looking
But why would I need something else?
Fighting To Be Heard by 6L

The woodpecker pecks at the bark of a tree,
a gurgling river flows in the distance.
Wind blows through the forest,
shaking leaf by leaf from its tree;
They jump, afraid -
Falling reluctantly into colorful mystery.

Without the comfort of conversation,
regret fills the air, the memories flooding and
Humming and drumming
In painful pattern.

Rough, calloused hands stroke
The bare branches of an oak
Red cheeks, bitten by the cold

The strumming of a guitar in the distance,
Beats with my heart
I turn, footsteps on crunching and
Scuttering leaves, brown and shades of red
Echo around
First frost found in crisp, maroon air

Seeking shelter with friends,
A soft rustling sound fills my lungs but
does not escape.
Mahogany bricks come into view,
yellow glow from the windows;
the mood says vibrant.

I do remember these days, with you.
Memories land, piling up, then instantly lift-off,
as they shift in the air.
The moon rises from the depths, and keeps rising,
Until I have to crane my neck for a glimpse.

Far away a crow caws;
The last left in the bronze-colored forest.
November is here.
November by 6H

The cool, light sound of a leaf
spinning, beginning the trip to its family on the ground,

Falling through the thin, grey air,
Like a collage on the world,
hung about with fire-drops,
little spots of flame -
the red and gold
of crowns, of kings, but also
of November.

The wind whistles through them,
as acorns drop,
a soft tapping drum.
Vision of barren trees,
pasted against deep orange and yellow sky that sits
on the mountains.

Though the forest vibrates with a sound of
deep bass strings -
thick chords against a thin blanket of frost,
the sky is steady,
waiting for the right time to snow.

November watches
this backdrop for change,
woolen scarf wrapped around her neck and face
and she chortles,
as October
slowly crumbles away.

Giving Tuesday is coming on November 30th!

Let's come together to support our school on Tuesday, November 30th! We are looking to receive 54 gifts in honor of our 54 faculty and staff members! If we meet our goal, our staff members will receive a special treat as a reminder that Peabody has been and always will be about our amazing staff! Look for updates leading up to the day! Gifts received between now and the end of the day on November 30th will count towards our 54 gift goal and count towards your annual fund participation.

Your participation in the Peabody Annual Fund provides essential operating support to Peabody. Income from tuition does not cover all of our operating expenses. The generosity of our community supports almost everything that keeps Peabody running, from salaries and classroom technology to arts and supplies. Lastly, the Fund supports financial aid as we ensure that any student can share in the Peabody experience. We hope that you will support Peabody in this area and that you will keep in mind that your Annual Fund gift, of any size, really matters to the school. Let's all MAKE AN IMPACT!

Thank you in advance for your consideration of a gift to Peabody School for the 2021-22 year and for being such strong supporters of our wonderful school!

Sustainability Blip of the Week

To support our Peabody sustainability mission, our student Earth Action Teams want to educate our community on the many ways you can help the environment. There will be a weekly feature in the newsletter that will educate you about a topic and give you ways you can take action. We will also have a bulletin board up near the community room for you to see the weekly feature and share what you are doing to help the Earth. There will be a space on the bulletin board for you to put your name if you are taking part in the weekly challenge.

Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP)

Interesting Facts:
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is roughly three times the size of France!
There are between 1.1 and 3.6 trillion pieces of plastic in The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The patch contains plastic that is over decades old.

What Can You Do?
One thing you can do is to volunteer in river or lake cleanups in your community because the trash eventually ends up in the ocean.

You can also stop consuming fish that were caught unsustainably in the ocean and removed for food because a lot of the GPGP is made up of fishing nets that were lost or improperly disposed of. Check out this link for safe fish to buy: seafoodwatch.org

Challenge of the Week
Try not to use any plastic water bottles in the next three days- those are easy to stay away from and really help the environment. You can use reusable water bottles instead!

What People are Doing
There is a system that was developed by The Ocean Cleanup, System 002 or “Jenny,” which scoops up plastic from the ocean. (https://teamseas.org/
