by the Reverend Deacon John F. Wirenius
On Monday, we will be celebrating Labor Day, the unofficial end of Summer, and the harbinger of Autumn. It became the day after which wearing white was frowned upon. While we’re less formal nowadays, Labor Day in New York City is an occasion for barbecues (hopefully with safety precautions against the Delta variant!) and a precious three-day weekend to prepare ourselves to return to work refreshed on Tuesday.
Join us for in-person worship on Sundays at 9 am, 11 am, at 5 pm, with congregational singing and St. Bartholomew's Choir participating at the 11 am service. Due to the increasing spread of COVID-19 variants, masks are again required at in-person services.

Come Labor On: Reflections on Labor Day
On Labor Day weekend, the Reverend Richard Witt, Executive Director of Rural & Migrant Ministry, reflects on the experience and needs of farmworkers in New York State and the importance of advocating for all workers’ rights. Please Note: This session of the Forum is pre-recorded, so we are unable to take your questions live. The Forum will be streamed on our website, Facebook Live and YouTube. Watch from home or join us in person to watch The Forum on the big screen in the Great Hall.

The Reverend Meredith E. Ward, Interim Associate Rector, will preach. Download our service leaflet to follow along with us as we livestream Sunday morning worship from the church on our website, Facebook and YouTube. Read our tips and tricks for worship online.

Great news! We have received a significant gift from a parishioner with the intention that it will match all new gifts, dollar for dollar up to $100,000, given to St. Bart’s before September 30th, 2021.

This is a unique opportunity for you to double your giving power and to help our parish in a wonderful and significant way. Won’t you make a generous gift today?

ONGOING AND UPCOMING
Saturday, September 11 at 11 am
On the twentieth anniversary of September 11, 2001, St. Bart's will once again offer a service of Holy Eucharist in solemn remembrance of all who died on that day. Both in-person and online worshippers are welcome. Members of the New York City Fire Department will be in attendance. The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe, Rector, will preach.

Sunday, September 12 at 9 am, 11 am, and 5 pm
As we mark the twentieth anniversary of September 11, 2001 and continue to face the COVID-19 pandemic, our Sunday services will focus on remembering all who have died. The Reverend Peter D. Thompson, Vicar, will preach.

Sunday, September 19 at 9 am, 11 am, and 5 pm
We celebrate our patron saint and our vibrant and inclusive community with exuberant music and festive worship. The St. Bart's Fair, with opportunities to learn about various ways to get involved at St. Bart's, will follow the 9 am and 11 am services. The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe, Rector, will preach.

Tuesdays, September 14-October 5, 6:30-8 pm
The Reverend Deacon John Wirenius introduces the Anglo-Catholic movement and outlines its growth over the past two centuries. Our exploration of the movement will begin with a discussion of John Henry Newman’s role in the first Oxford Movement, move onto reaction to the Movement by selective legal enforcement of the rubrics against Anglo-Catholic clergy, discuss the cultural impact of Anglo-Catholicism, and conclude with the second Oxford Movement, following it into the Post World War I spiritual malaise. Register here.

Thursdays, September 16-October 21, 6:30-8 pm
Professor Larry Welborn of Fordham University returns to St. Bart's to explore the sayings of Jesus we don't know well: both the sayings of Jesus found in documents discovered over the past century and the sayings of Jesus found in the Bible whose truth we haven't yet fully contemplated. Each session will focus on an aphorism or parable using a synopsis that shows all the versions, including those found in recently discovered gospels. Register here.

2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 6-7 pm
Led by the Reverend Meredith Ward, Forward Together is a support group for people who are experiencing job insecurity, who are unemployed or under-employed, or who are considering a career change. Grounded in scripture and prayer, the group is a safe and confidential space to share experiences, get support, and express concerns about job insecurity. For questions or further information, contact the Reverend Meredith Ward.

Wednesdays at 1 pm
Thoughtful reflection and lively discussion of the upcoming Sunday readings, hosted by the Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe, Rector. Please contact Liz Gillespie to join our weekly Bible study via Zoom.

AND MORE
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry highlights ways to help Afghan refugees through Episcopal Migration Ministries. Watch or read the Presiding Bishop’s message about the new Afghan Parolee Support Program, noting that, “the ministry of offering welcome to those fleeing violence is nothing less than God’s work.” Included with the video are links and information sources that can assist you in participating in any way that you can.

If you are a morning person, we need you! Volunteers are needed to cook a delicious breakfast for our guests, serve the meal in go-to bags, or clean up after. Thanks to an exciting new partnership with Rethink Food, we are transitioning from serving a modest breakfast to offering hot meals on Saturday mornings. Perhaps you've not been up for the "crack of dawn" crews that serve our weekday breakfast? Well, this is a chance to get in the game at a more reasonable hour. The shift runs from 8:30 am to 11 am, and we need five volunteers each Saturday. Learn more and volunteer today.

DAILY PRAYER
Do you desire a few moments of peace at the end of each day? Join the St. Bart's community for Night Prayer each weekday evening at 8:30 pm. Clergy and lay officiants will lead brief services based on or inspired by the ancient office of Compline.
