Synod releases 2023 Compensation Guidelines

The 2023 compensation guidelines are provided as a starting point for determining compensation for clergy, deacons, and staff. However, these are only guidelines. They cannot possibly speak to all congregations with varying financial and personnel resources and expectations.

These guidelines emerge from ongoing review of current salaries, salaries paid in other denominations, PORTICO Benefit Services, the overall picture of compensation, and synod staff’s ongoing work with congregations. There has also been comparison with teachers and other professionals with comparable education and responsibility.

Synod office update

Synod staff are working in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays, and are working either in office or remotely Mondays and Fridays. We are hosting visitors on the Minnesota Church Center’s first floor and in the sixth-floor synod office on a limited basis.

Ears perk when Lutherans use their voices

“Our Minneapolis Area Synod EcoFaith Network’s work around energy utilities has led us to advocate on behalf of inclusive financing programs. Such policies make it easier for all people to reduce the amount of energy they use and pay for. And working for this policy solution has been all about showing up in public spaces – many where people perk their ears up when they hear there are people from the local Lutheran church wanting to talk about why their faith has called them to care about energy policy.”

Young Adults will Gather

Are you a young adult (roughly 19-35) in the Twin Cities, looking to connect with other young adults? Gather is a ministry supported by the Minneapolis Area Synod that sets the table for worship, fellowship, and community building among young adult Lutherans in the metro area. We do so through worship, fellowship, and a meal shared in community.

After worship, a simple and abundant meal, prepared by Shobi's Table, will be shared. Multiple dietary accommodations are considered when selecting the menu, but email gathertwincities@gmail.com with a specific food allergy or request.

How strong is your constitution?

A congregation’s constitution is its primary governing document. It provides a framework for its purpose and mission and includes provisions that address important matters such as council and committee leadership, membership criteria, the call of a pastor and/or deacon, administration of real estate and property, and the congregation’s relationship with the synod and the larger church. Any constitutions that are currently being reviewed for approval by the synod, as well as all constitutions submitted for review and approval in the future, must now conform to the required provisions (marked with an *) in the new “2022 Model Constitution for Congregations.”
