This safari explores three very different and beautiful environments in Botswana, with their attendant flora and fauna, and three different styles of accommodation, from mobile safari tenting to glamping in the treetops. The map below gives you an idea of where we'll be.

Itinerary

May 3: Welcome to South Africa!
Arrive in Johannesburg, where we spend one night in a guesthouse in the country outside the city. Arrangements can be made if you decide to come earlier to spend more time in South Africa.

We leave early in the morning to fly to Maun, Botswana. We can spend the afternoon looking around the town, and in the evening will be briefed on what to expect over the next three days. We spend the night in Maun.
May 5-8: *Kalahari Skies mobile safari - no fixed address!
This morning we head out for three days with Kalahari Skies on a mobile safari. We are headed towards the Khwai area east of the Okavango Delta, which offers a mix of grassland, forests, and winding waterways. This is where we'll see most of the more familiar African animal species, and will drive out daily (and perhaps at night!) in our two safari vehicles. Our group size - fourteen - has been chosen to make sure that no one has a middle seat!
* The website doesn't show the more private tents we will have, with attached 'facilities'.

May 8: Maun overnight.
We return to Maun to spend the night before heading out to...
May 9-12: Camp Kalahari
En route to our second 'safari home' we stop at Baines Baobabs for a picnic lunch. Camp Kalahari is on the northern edge of the Makgadikgadi Pan, and is where we get the chance to see meerkats and perhaps aardvarks, aardwolves, korhaans, bat-eared foxes, and several other less common critters. This is our experience of the 'real' Kalahari Desert - dry, dry, dry at this time of year.
April 12-15: Setari Camp
We fly from the airstrip at Camp Kalahari to Setari Camp. Be prepared for a stunning change of landscape - a water wonderland, which we can see evolve as we fly northward over the Delta. Setari Camp is in the northern permanent water area of the Okavango Delta, with it's own specialized plants and animals.
There's the possibility of a morning helicopter excursion to Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for an additional cost.

May 15:
Back to Johannesbburg and a night there before departure. You may opt to go elsewhere from Setari, such as Chobe/Kasane and Victoria Falls, which is very easy to arrange.
Some people may choose to fly out of Johannesburg directly from the airport upon arrival back from Maun. For most international flights there is time to make the transfer.
If not...
Overnight in Johannesburg.

May 16 - or later: Departure from Johannesbburg.

The cost May 3-16 is $8350.00 USD. Since it's all in Botswana, and some of the places are already heavily booked I am asking for an initial deposit of $3350.00 to hold your place. Financial details upon request.
