Women’s Mental Health needs you as assertive, and effective advocates!
Psychopathology presents differently in women. Better diagnostics are badly needed. There are also indications that woman react in another way to many drugs. And additionally, Social Determinants play a crucial role in inducing mental problems in women. This is why we cannot shy away from the need for Gender Equity that is yet far from being achieved worldwide!
Are Mental Health Facilities always safely accessible for women! If not, how come and what can we do about it?
These themes will be addressed along those that the participants will submit for the congress.
If these issues matter to you, as a user, professional or lobbyist for equity and women’s rights, we want you to join us at the 9th Congress of IAWMH and the Dutch Alliance for Gender & Mental Health where you will find plenty of worldwide peer support, inspiration, and a forum to share and learn
A congress with active participants. An opportunity to meet with colleagues, professionals, and users. A unique forum to meet and speak with each other: professionals, users but also policymakers and lobbyist and interest groups.
Active participants? Yes, this congress will be “different” in the sense that participants will be invited to round tables at the beginning and end of each day. Discussion groups to which you will randomly be assigned to ensure diversity and openness to address crucial issues as: gender images in childrearing and society, gender equity, gender sensitive healthcare, autonomy of women, balance between work and home(work), trauma en domestic- sexual- violence, burnt-out.
In other words, along with scientific progress in the field of gender and mental health, we want to address more fundamental cultural and societal issues that are linked to the high rate of mental health problems in women and in vulnerable groups.
The outcomes of these roundtables will be shared.
The themes of the roundtables are those that will be addressed in plenaries and symposia during the day. This will gain in impact through brainstorming at the start of the day and reflection and debriefing at the end of the day, not only with your acquaintances and friends, but with all those that share your interest and fight for the same causes.
