Spring 2021
The email topic for this past week was “Jesus Introduced the Lord’s Supper”. In it, we saw that, after Jesus had instructed the disciples about remembering his death until He returned, and warned them that they would each deny him, Peter depended on his own strength and did exactly what he said he would never do.
A few hours earlier, in John 15:5, Jesus had said, “‘I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.’” Peter boldly defended Jesus while he was standing next to Jesus when the religious leaders came to arrest Jesus. However, when he and the others fled, Luke 22:54 says, “Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance.” Here, we see that Peter was no longer standing with Jesus but was following at a distance. Luke 22:61 tells us what Jesus did after Peter denied Him the third time. That verse says, “And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, ‘Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.’” Here, we see that Peter did not even remember, until he had already denied Jesus the third time. When we depend on our own strength, we will also deny Jesus by our words, actions or both. We want to help our physical and spiritual children learn to yield to Christ moment-by-moment, instead of depending on their own strength. Only as we yield to the Holy Spirit moment-by- moment will we be able to stand in the strength of Christ. May the Lord richly bless you as you help your children understand this important lesson.
This is our goal as well. If you aren’t already receiving these weekly email devotionals, you can subscribe to the “Growing in Christ” email series at SVEQ.ORG / news. And join us as we are Growing in Christ together.

Here are a few specific things you can be praying about:

  • This past weekend, Jeff, Jos and myself, as well as several other volunteers had the opportunity to help film our local Child Evangelism Fellowship (or CEF) “Resurrection Road” drive through event. Several local churches joined CEF to depict the scenes - The Triumphal Entry, The Last Supper, Jesus Prayed in the Garden, The Arrest of Jesus, Peter Denies Jesus, Jesus Dies on the Cross, The Empty Tomb and Jesus is Alive. Pray for those who came to the drive through, especially for those who don't have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, that the Holy Spirit would continue to work in their lives and they would come to an understanding of Who He is and what He has done for them through His death and resurrection. Pray also for those who do have a personal relationship with Jesus that this visual reminder of what Jesus Christ did for them would impact their lives for His glory.
  • We would also appreciate prayer for wisdom as we compile the footage of this event. Pray that God will be glorified as CEF uses it in various ways.
  • Pray with us as well as we replace some networking equipment which recently failed and brought our internet access to a quick halt.  Thank the Lord for the quick band-aids that we were able to put into place to get things working temporarily, but also pray for the process of configuring and installing the replacement equipment.  Lord willing, we will be using that process as an opportunity to teach others, and learn various technologies together so we can all be more effective servants for Christ.

And as always, Thank YOU – for your encouragement, prayers and support.
