Virtual Learning Now Available for Quarantined Students
and During Class or School Closures
Dear New Rochelle Community:

I am pleased to announce that the City School District of New Rochelle is launching virtual learning for quarantined students and in the event that a class/school closure is warranted.

I appreciate your patience and understanding as we worked with our collective-bargaining units to develop this virtual-learning protocol. We thank our collective-bargaining partners -- the Federation of United School Employees (FUSE) and the Administrative and Supervisory Association (A&S), the union representing District administrators -- for their cooperation and dedication to our students’ education.

To ensure continuity of learning, our virtual classroom is intended to mirror the physical classroom where possible. In this virtual environment, like the in-person setting, students’ well-being and academic progress will continue to be priorities. Students will continue to interact with their teachers, peers, and content via their designated online platform (Zoom or Google Meet). The classroom teacher will share the Zoom or Google Meet link within 24 business hours, but not later than 48 business hours, of receiving notice of the affected student’s quarantine or the closure of a particular class/school.

We are committed to ensuring that our students are successful in this virtual environment, and your support, as partners, is needed. As such, we thank you in advance for ensuring the following actions are taken by you and/or our students:
  • Join the class using the link sent by the classroom teacher.
  • Turn on the camera and leave it on unless the teacher gives permission to turn it off.
  • Participate in class and ask questions.
  • Complete assigned work on time; if needed, ask for help.
  • Contact the school if technology access (Chromebook or Wi-Fi connection) is needed.
  • Frequently communicate with the teacher and/or school counselor.
  • Reach out to our social workers and/or psychologists if assistance is needed.
  • Connect with your child's principal if you're unable to contact your child's teacher, counselor or support staff.

Additionally, we are finalizing a document that will provide detailed guidance regarding scheduling, instructional resources, student supports, etc. Once launched, it will be available on our website, nred.org. You can learn about the recently published safety protocols for symptoms and exposure here.

If you have questions, please contact the building administrator or Olivine Roberts, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, at oroberts@nredlearn.org.

Again, thank you for your cooperation and partnership. We appreciate your support as we continue to navigate this unprecedented era in our community.

Sincerely,
Jonathan P. Raymond

Estimada comunidad de New Rochelle:

Sinceramente,
Jonathan P. Raymond
