WELCOME to IVPL as we celebrate National Library Week, April 3-9, 2022. This year’s theme is “Connect With Your Library,” so let’s go!
Did you realize that IVPL is one of the most important places in town? Why? Here are more than a dozen reasons you “already know” and “some that are new!”
1. IVPL serves as a community and cultural hub. IVPL provides information and connections through art, literature, music, and educational programs. A recent example was the annual display of art work by hundreds of students in the Souderton Area School District. IVPL provided an opportunity for hundreds of students and their families, friends, and neighbors to see the incredible gifts and talents of the community’s children.
2. Family Friendly, IVPL has resources and programs for all ages! Weekly story time for babies and preschoolers. Age 5 and up, sign up to Read to a Dog! Grab a spot in the monthly ‘Tween Graphic Novel Club. Legos Club – yes! Beginner Chess Club – Yes! Crafts – Yes! Jig-saw puzzle fans – check out the Monthly Book Cover puzzle on the Teen Page. Okay teens, “Reversed Reading” is your chance to tell adults books you think they should read! And don’t miss the IVPL Teen Blog – a place especially for you! There’s so much more for you and your family at IVPL – check it out!
3. If the word “library” makes you think of books, DVDs, CDs, and computers, get ready to expand your vision! If you’re ready for a day trip to area museums and educational centers, you’ll find free passes to 14 destinations including the Bucks County Children’s Museum, Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum, the National Constitution Center, and the Elmwood Park Zoo at IVPL. Go on line, or ask a librarian how to reserve your tickets! The staff encourages everyone to explore, interact, and imagine, adding value to our communities and cultural centers in the greater Indian Valley. Wait!!! That’s not all!!! Under the “Youth Services” tab, click on “Virtual Field Trips” to access 15 different types of adventures including 33 national parks, art museums, live animal cams and more. WOW!
I hope this helps to expand your perspective of the myriad services, resources, opportunities, and programs that Indian Valley Public Library provides. Although we take time each year to celebrate the many accomplishments of IVPL via National Library week, I hope this year you “Connect with Your IVPL” and experience the richness of the “precious gem” in our own backyard. Enjoy!

To Damian Wayne, there is nothing more important than protecting the streets of Gotham City as Robin. But when he makes a critical mistake while out on patrol, Damian finds himself benched. And what's more, Damian's dad, Bruce Wayne-a.k.a. Batman-decides that starting over in a new school will be just the distraction Damian needs from his superhero routine. Certain that Gotham Metro Academy has nothing to teach him, Damian is completely unprepared for the challenge he finds in Howard-the smartest and most athletic kid in school. The boys' rivalry is instantaneous and fierce...and both are sure only one of them can be the best in their class.

Stress: Promoting Health in a World of Uncertainty
Wednesday, April 6th — 7:00-8:00 PM

Stress: Promoting Health in a World of Uncertainty
Stressed out? Let’s talk about it! The last two years have presented challenges never before anticipated. The threat of a deadly virus, lockdowns, loss of employment, career changes, working from home, virtual school, supply shortages, disruptions to social interactions, and the loss of loved ones have contributed to widespread acute and chronic stress. Recent international tensions further add to a collective sense of unease and financial strain. Stress is associated with psychological and physiological conditions including anxiety, depression, insomnia, hypertension, substance abuse, and obesity.
Join us for a presentation about the effects of stress and how to mitigate it. The event is free and open to the public.
About the presenter - Susanne Page is a Registered Nurse and Souderton resident. She is a graduate of Temple University and the Montgomery County Community College and holds degrees in both fine art and nursing. This program is part of a community education project through Aspen University to promote health in the community.

Thursday, April 14th — 6:30-7:45 PM
Zoom
Longwood Gardens Community Read brings books and people together to spur discussion about an important idea or topic. For the ninth year of our Community Read, we’re asking readers: What would a tree tell us if we just took the time to listen?
In Part 1 of his book The Songs of Trees: Stories from Nature’s Great Connectors, David Haskell explores the network of life and believes that trees are a central part of those connections. Haskell will be joined by ethnobotanist Chief Dennis Coker of the Lenape Tribe of Delaware for a conversation about the interconnections of trees and humans, and how those ideas relate to our region.
Trees Living in Cities - A Community Read Conversation
Thursday, April 21st — 6:30-7:45 PM
Virtual
Longwood Gardens Community Read brings books and people together to spur discussion about an important idea or topic. For the ninth year of our Community Read, we’re asking readers: What would a tree tell us if we just took the time to listen?
Trees are an important component of urban landscapes as David Haskell describes in Part 3 of his book, The Songs of Tree: Stories from Nature’s Great Connectors. They shade our sidewalks, feed us, and are vehicles of creative beauty. Amidst the hustle of our human lives these trees frequently go unnoticed, but the connection is indeed profound. Join Haskell, Georgia Silvera Seamans of the Washington Square Park Eco Projects, and Jessica Turner-Skoff of The Morton Arboretum as they discuss how trees in bustling cities use their embodied network to contribute to the life of humans.
PHEAA Access Partners will present an overview of the 2022-23 FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) process. They will guide students and families through a step-by-step process of filing the FAFSA and PA State Grant application.

These men were West Point classmates and Civil War enemies.
Presented by Mike Jesberger, historical reenactor, lecturer and tour guide.
In-person Quizzo returns! Hosted by Quizmaster Katie. Come as a team or join a team. BYOB and snacks. Register here.
Coastal Redwoods, an Evolving Relationship
Thursday, April 28th — 7:00-8:00 PM
Zoom
Coastal redwoods are the tallest trees in the entire world, and they have a story to tell. Despite thousands of years of evolution and survival, a single species reduced them to 5% of their original range in less than a century. Join Redwood National & State Parks as we explore the changing connection humans have to the old-growth forest. From indigenous peoples to logging and clear-cutting to restoration and preservation, the relationship between humans and old-growth redwoods has evolved and changed like the trees themselves.
About the presenter: Ally Gran is an interpretive and education park ranger at Redwood National and State Parks. She graduated with a degree in forestry and is entering her third year with Redwood National & State Parks.
A Message from Longwood Gardens: This year we join local libraries and community partners for the ninth year of the Longwood Gardens’ Community Reads – a program designed to encourage reading for pleasure and start a conversation.
