Arrests, deportations of immigrants in U.S. illegally fell in 2021
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made about 74,000 arrests of immigrants in the U.S. illegally in fiscal 2021, the agency said. This is a significant decline from previous years, as the Biden administration shifted enforcement within the U.S. to focus on those with a serious criminal record. Of the immigrants arrested, about 49% had criminal convictions, the agency said.

Biden admin to expedite resettlement of vulnerable Ukrainian refugees in U.S.
The Biden administration is streamlining the resettlement of some Ukrainian refugees in the U.S. The plan would allow vulnerable Ukrainians, specifically activists, journalists and those who are part of the LGBTQ community, to safely enter the U.S. at least temporarily. It would also expedite the reunification of Ukrainians with U.S.-based family members, the sources said.

Startup backers eye China competition bill
to add new visa
As lawmakers have spent the past decade discussing, but not enacting, a new special visa classification for startup founders, more than two dozen other countries have created such visas for entrepreneurs. Now, business groups ringing alarm bells over the U.S. falling behind are targeting a $250 billion China competition bill that would make investments in semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain resilience as a pathway to enact the visas and retain startup founders.

USCIS urges eligible individuals to file I-485 in EB-2 India category in April 2022
If you are a noncitizen who has an approved immigrant visa petition in the EB-2 category chargeable to India and a priority date earlier than Sept. 1, 2014, USCIS encourages you to consider applying for adjustment of status in April by filing Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status.

USCIS preparing to resume public services on June 4
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is preparing some domestic offices to reopen and resume non-emergency public services on or after June 4. Offices will automatically reschedule asylum interviews that were cancelled during the temporary closures.

USCIS expands credit card payment pilot program to all service centers
The USCIS service centers are now accepting credit card payments using Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions, for all forms except Form I-129, Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker, for H-1B and H-2A petitions.

slight forward movement for India in the EB-2 category and no movement in the EB-3 category.
