The 55th Annual Meeting of Convention wrapped up early this past Saturday; a surprising achievement considering the number of resolutions that were being considered. There were five that included first-time substitute resolutions and one from the floor, that Bishop Bob remarked was probably the first one he's witnessed since his time in the Diocese. Thanks to his years of experience and ability to control and keep everything on track, the meeting was able to end in a timely manner. Electronic voting, which was introduced in last year's Annual Meeting, went smoothly, and the meeting as a whole went well.

Convention 55 actually started off on Friday, October 20, with an Education Day, Opening Eucharist, and Aloha Reception. Education Day consisted of presentations from three of the Diocese's ministries: The Racial Reconciliation Task Force, Environmental Justice & Creation Care Task Force, and the Deacon's Ministry. Both tears and hilarity were in abundance. The Diocese's Archdeacon, the Venerable Steve Costa, shared poignant and moving accounts in two of the sessions, while the Environmental Justice and Creation Care's "game show" brought about lots of laughter with team names like Confused Coconuts and Frustration Jason Momoa ---whaaat?

Record Attendance at Prayer Vigil for Red Hill Defueling

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, clergy from the Diocese of Hawai'i led a prayer vigil on Halawa Valley Street, at the entrance to the controversial Red Hill Defueling site. The vigil drew a record number of supporters thanks to Healani Sonoda Pale and other Hawaiian organizations who coordinated the effort. Also joining them was Brother Ambrose Cristóbal from the Society of St. Francis, who was on island for Convention 55 as one of the guest chaplains. MAUI: Coming Up! A Day of Healing in Upcountry Maui

St. John's Episcopal Church (Kula) and The Rotary Club of Maui are co-sponsoring "A Day of Healing"...for all who are experiencing grief, PTSD, or any kind of trauma as a result of the Wild Fires on Maui in August. Presiding bishop returns from surgery, chairs Executive Council meeting confronting violence, division, change

[10/25/23] Presiding Bishop Michael Curry, recovering from a Sept. 20 surgery, returned as chair of Executive Council on Oct. 25 at its meeting this week, after missing its last meeting in June.
