Your Monthly News & Updates
Welcome to this edition of United Way of West Central Minnesota's monthly e-newsletter.

This month, we also are asking for feedback in the form of a very brief survey to help us navigate during these uncharted times. Our hope is this survey will assist our board in providing the programs and resources most useful to those we serve. Please feel free to contact our team with any questions or needs you may have.
Brew Ha Ha 6.0 Recap
We had a great turnout with lots of delicious food from the Willmar Conference Center, a great variety of drinks from Hinterland Vineyards, Jomas Hill Vineyard, Beaver Island Brewing, Foxhole Brewhouse, Talking Waters Brewing, and Goat Ridge Brewery, and we had tons of laughs with comedian John DeBoer. The highlight of the night was watching former UWWCM board member Brad Hanson win $15,000 in our Imagination Library raffle.

GrowMobile Coming Soon
The GrowMobile schedule is being finalized now. Make sure that you follow us on Facebook for all of your local events.
The Village Children's Museum is now part
of the United Way of West Central Minnesota
The Village was founded in Willmar, MN in 2016 to create a safe and educational environment for area children of all backgrounds and cultures to learn and play. The Village will add to the programs the United Way offers in the area of education regionally, and allow both organizations to be more effective and reach more people than would be possible alone.
Moving forward, the United Way of West Central Minnesota will work to build on the success of The Village, continuing to provide programming, play equipment, field trips, and educational opportunities. Work will also be done to broaden the benefit of The Village to our area by developing and providing adult education opportunities, training and development classes for area day-care providers, community event space, and other programs to enrich everyone in our communities. Much of The Village staff will continue in their current roles.

The Village executive director Paula Smith, along with other board members of The Village will also be joining the United Way Board of Directors. More information will be provided in the coming months as both teams work to complete the transition and begin adapting for the future.

The Village Children's Museum Director Opening
The Village Children’s Museum in Willmar, a program of the United Way, is looking for its next Director. This position will be 30-40 hours per week. Days and hours vary and may include evenings or weekends. This position manages all operations of the business including staffing, memberships, programming, and related record keeping. Preferred candidates will have a degree in education, child development, or a related field and have 3+ years in a management or a supervisory role.
Youth in Philanthropy
Funding from the WACF is allowing us to get local students involved and learn about Non-profits and Philanthropy. Once a month between Jan-April we will visit a local non-profit agency and learn what they do and why. We hope to show the students the potential career opportunities working with non-profits and introduce them to the grant process. In the end, the kids will be able to give out $5,000 in donations.
Careers in the Non-Profit Sector
Executive Director, Kevin Dietrich spoke at multiple schools in the area to get kids thinking about careers and not to forget about Non-profits.
Bridge Builders
West Central Minnesota is fortunate to have a broad system of non-profit and service organizations that work to change lives for area families and individuals. However, community needs change over time, and in order to be most effective, we believe that by creating a forum for those organizations to share, discuss, plan, and support one another all of our efforts will benefit. Bridgebuilders is a group run by the United Way that invites stakeholders in these organizations to benefit from these discussions.
Our goal is always to meet the current needs of our residents, to fill gaps wherever there may be a gap in services. Bridgebuilders will help to reduce duplication of effort among our non-profit partners, to understand as a collective where additional services are needed and plans for making the critical changes needed to be as effective and supportive as possible. Andrew Bregar - Board Member
Andrew Bregar is the most recent member to join the United Way of West Central Minnesota board, and he is excited to utilize his skills and experience to make a difference both on the board and within the West Central Minnesota area.
After moving to Willmar in 2019, Andrew had sought out opportunities to give back to the community and began serving on the Vision 2040 design team. The COVID pandemic made it challenging to find additional opportunities, so when he was approached about joining the United Way board, he jumped at the chance. Andrew had always been impressed by the programs and services provided by the United Way locally, and he looks forward to being an active part of the team. Andrew was impressed to see that the board is a “working” board, and each member plays a hands-on role in ensuring the organization is as effective as possible. He has also appreciated the fact that while there are ample opportunities to give to the United Way, he has never felt pressured to do so. Ours is a close-knit team and we are fortunate to add Andrew to it.
