OC 592/2021 - The Construction Codes Act, SS 2021, c 9 (the “CCA”) came into force in Saskatchewan on Saturday, January 1, 2022. It repeals and replaces The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Act (the “UBASA”) and it promotes better access and use of buildings for persons with disabilities and protects persons from unsafe renovation and construction practices. This Act incorporates the applicable edition of the National Building Code, Energy Code and the Plumbing Codes of Canada and capacitates the Saskatchewan Government to regulate modern standards for energy efficiency and building construction. It will transform provincial development, adoption and implementation of construction standards and will further unravel the powers and responsibilities of building owners, local authorities, building officials, and the construction industry as a whole. |
