When is Give Day?

November 2, 2023

What is Give Day?

Give Day is a 24-hour online fundraising campaign aimed to bring the St. Luke’s Epsicopal School community together. The goals are to increase engagement and drive philanthropic donations to the school.

Why?

Simply put, tuition doesn’t cover the cost of educating our students. Give Day provides an opportunity for us to join together to provide our students the resources they need to be successful in college and in life.

What’s the Goal?

$45,000

STEM(M) AT ST. LUKE'S

As a continuing part of our Project Lead The Way Flight and Space, the Sixth Grade

visited the US Coast Guard ATC. This was to show the students different aspects of aviation, relief, and rescue. They toured a plane, viewed helicopters, and spoke with the Coast Guard pilots about the different missions they had completed. The students could identify, to the pilots, the different parts of the plane. The sixth graders have learned about air traffic control, calculating reserve fuel, converting miles into nautical miles, scheduling crew, creating Gantt charts, and creating their own aircraft. IMPRESSIVE!

ST. LUKE'S CENTER STAGE'S FIRST PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR

Center Stage put on fabulous performances of 10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse and 10 Ways to Survive the End of the World! Both shows were light-hearted, hilarious, fast-paced, high-energy comedies. Congratulations to Ms. Hannah Grace Smith for a fabulous directing debut at St. Luke's!

REPTILE AWARENESS DAY WITH VINNY, THE JAPONICA SCIENCE LAB BEARDED DRAGON

Vinny is a bearded dragon that LOVES living in the Japonica Campus Science Lab. He was gifted to Mrs. Thompson by a fellow teacher looking to rehome him post-COVID. His formal name is Vincent (as in VanGogh), but we just call him Vinny. He is about 3 ½ years old and LOVES to eat mealworms, blueberries and turnip greens! Vinny is LOVED by ALL!

NATIONAL CHEMISTRY WEEK WITH MRS. JACKSON

Growing up in Biloxi, Mississippi, Mrs. Jackson embarked on a journey to the University of South Alabama, where she earned two undergraduate degrees. Although she didn't initially envision a career in chemistry, she has grown to love the subject and found it unique in its integration with other sciences. Chemistry is not just a theoretical concept for Mrs. Jackson; it is an integral part of our daily lives that we interact with constantly.

Mrs. Jackson is very passionate about teaching and understands that every student learns at their own pace and through different methods. As such, she is dedicated to catering to the specific needs of each of her students. She incorporates various hands-on activities in her classes to make chemistry more engaging and enjoyable. For instance, her students recently built models of different elements using pom poms and styrofoam balls.

For Mrs. Jackson, the most exciting aspect of chemistry is how it is intrinsically woven into the fabric of our lives, being involved in almost everything we do. She hopes to instill this appreciation in her students, encouraging them to use the skills they learn in her class to better understand the world around them.
