Tuesday, March 30, 2021: 3rd Standardization Conference
On Thursday, March 30th, the USRCC together with the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP) and its Committee for Industrial Policy and Technical Regulation hosted its 3rd Standardization Conference.

Over 360 registrants from United States of America, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries attended the Conference. Rules for obtaining licensed translations, standards development system, products certification rules, work in technical committees of the U.S. standardization organizations, understanding of the differences between the U.S.A. and Russian standardization systems, standards development processes and standards committees, and other related questions were discussed.

The following panelists have made their presentations during the Conference:

The Conference was followed by a Q&A session moderated by the USRCC. Panelists answered questions related to cooperation between Russian, CIS and USA standardization organizations, government regulations of standardization processes, application of Eurocodes in the United States, Russian experts participation in API working groups, certification of standardization specialists, MOU implementation between standardization organizations, and many others.

Russian Venture Capital Market Falls 20% During Pandemic

Themoscowtimes.com, March 30, 2021: Russia saw a 20% contraction in venture capital investments last year, according to Dsight, a Moscow-based business intelligence firm. Total venture capital investment came in at $703 million in 2020, down from $869 million in 2019, the firm said in a new report. Dsight attributes this fall to the “unpredictability of the pandemic” and “investors’ risk aversion.” Read more...

Changes to Procedures When Opening Representative Offices in Russia

Russia-briefing.com, April 1, 2021: Russia has amended its Federal Law “On Foreign Investments in the Russian Federation”, with changes coming into force on August 24 this year. According to the amendments, the accreditation period for a branch or a representative office of a foreign legal entity is reduced from 25 to 15 working days, except for representative offices dealing with civil aviation (for them it remains unchanged). U.S. Suspends Visa Services at Consulate in Russia: Ambassador

Reuters.com, April 1, 2021: The United States is suspending its visa and citizen services at a consulate in Russia and make the services available only at its embassy in Moscow following a safety and security review of its operations, the U.S. ambassador said on Thursday. The move comes after the United States halted work at two consulates in Russia last year, citing safety and security issues at the facilities where operations had been curtailed over COVID-19. Interfax.com, March 31, 2021: Moscow needs good relations between Russia and the United States as much as Washington, D.C. does, Russia is not going to pursue anyone, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said. "We need good, positive, and pragmatic relations between Russia and the U.S. as much as the U.S. does, and we're not going to pursue anyone. If the U.S. wants to maintain good relations with Russia, we will always respond in the positive. Moody’s Changes Outlook for Russian Banking Sector to Stable

Russiabusinesstoday.com, April 1, 2021: The international rating agency Moody’s has changed the forecast for the Russian banking sector for next 12-18 months from negative to stable, Vice President – Senior Credit Expert of the Agency Olga Ulyanova says on Wednesday. he forecast revision is based on improved macroeconomic situation in Russia, Ulyanova adds. Moody’s expects Russian GDP will grow by 2.3% in 2021 and by 2.1% in 2022 after the contraction by 3.1% in 2020. Growing oil prices act as a positive driver for this factor, she notes. Read more...

Всемирный Банк Улучшил Прогноз по Росту Российской Экономики

Rbc.ru, Март 31, 2021: ВВП России в 2021–2022 годах вырастет на 2,9 и 3,2% соответственно, прогнозирует в своем докладе Всемирный банк. Это лучше, чем аналогичный январский прогноз. Тогда организация ожидала роста российской экономики на 2,6 и 3%. Как объясняют авторы доклада, прогноз пересмотрен в связи с меньшим, чем ожидалось, сокращением ВВП по итогам 2020 года (оно составило 3,1%), а также на фоне быстрого смягчения ограничений, связанных с COVID-19.
