Over the years, many remarkable artists have found their muse in Kent County, Maryland. You can find countless works in a variety of media – from paint, pastel, wood and clay to glass, metal, fiber and photography – on display in galleries and in exhibit spaces throughout the area. Visitors to Kent County may also enjoy community poetry readings, theater productions, musical events and themed festivities celebrating our rich maritime heritage and strong ties to American colonial history.
In 2015, the State of Maryland designated Chestertown, the county seat, as an Arts and Entertainment District, putting the official imprimatur on our thriving local arts scene. Nonetheless, art and entertainment is readily available throughout the county. Venues like Rock Hall's very own Mainstay, among others, provide a source of music, community theater and performance arts to locals and tourists alike.
Annual events celebrating our ties to the arts include the Chestertown Jazz Festival, Chestertown Tea Party, Rock Hall FallFest, Chestertown RiverArts Studio Tour, Sultana Downrigging Weekend and the Chestertown "Dickens of a Christmas" festivities.
