Veterans Day Ceremony Relocating to City Center

The City's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be relocating this year to the Cumming City Center Lou Sobh Amphitheater, 423 Canton Road. The City of Cumming will partner with American Legion Post 307 to host this year's event, which, due to Veterans Day falling on Saturday, will be held on Friday, Nov. 10th beginning at 11 a.m. The entire community is invited to come join us as we honor all who have served our great nation in both peace and war time.


The program will include patriotic music from the Forsyth Central High School Flash of Crimson Band and Christian Fine Arts of Forsyth, as well as speakers, rifle salute from the Forsyth County Fire Department and Sheriff's Office Joint Honor Guard, musical salutes to all military service branches, and more. Myth & Legend Coffee House will also be on-site with a select menu of breakfast beverages and food items. Chairs will be provided, free parking is onsite at the City Center, and all are welcome. (Inclement weather location will be the Cumming Fairgrounds covered arena.)

Kick Off the Holidays at the City Center

The Cumming City Center will celebrate the start of the holiday season on Saturday, Nov. 18th with the 2nd Annual Winter/Holiday Market and Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration!


The Winter/Holiday Market, presented by Pieces & Peaches Boutique, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event allows up to 100 local vendors and artisans to bring in unique items in various categories such as home decor, fashion, jewelry, food and treats, and more! The event will also offer photos with Santa, holiday music, seasonal activities, and more.


Stick around after the market for the Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration from 6-7 p.m. Presented by Local Church Forsyth and Lou Sobh Automotive, this event features live music by The Big Beyond, family activities, and warm beverages and desserts from local vendors all leading up to the big moment when the giant tree is lit!

Dispose of Household Hazards Nov. 4th at Fairgrounds

Keep Forsyth County Beautiful presents the fall Household Hazardous Waste Recycling & Disposal Event on Saturday, Nov. 4th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cumming Fairgrounds Parking Lot #3. Register now to bring your household hazardous waste - which includes items such as paint, cleaning chemicals, batteries, motor oil, solvents, and electronics - to be recycled and disposed of at the event. The event is free, but a $5 minimum donation is suggested and appreciated. Advance registration is required to participate. Steam, Antique Tractor & Gas Engine Expo Returns to Fairgrounds

Antique tractors, steam engines and more return to the Cumming Fairgrounds on Nov. 10th and 11th for the annual Steam, Antique Tractor and Gas Engine Expo. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Bring the whole family to check out numerous motorized vehicles and farm equipment, as well as vendors and more. Atlanta BBQ Store Classic Open to Public Nov. 18th

Calling all barbecue fans! Come out to the Cumming Fairgrounds on Saturday, Nov. 18th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to sample competition style barbecue at the Atlanta BBQ Store Classic. Parking and admission are free, but there is a $10 per person fee to sample the barbecue and vote in the People's Choice contest. Proceeds from the event will benefit local food bank, Meals by Grace. Aquatic Center Upcoming Events

Despite the season, there's still plenty going on this month at the Cumming Aquatic Center!


Family Friday - On Family Friday, the third Friday of each month, receive 50% off General Admission (excludes memberships, programs, and group exercise classes). Family Friday returns Nov. 17th!


Parents Night Out - Need to get some holiday shopping taken care of without the kids? Bring them to the CAC on Dec. 8th from 6-10 p.m. They will enjoy a pizza party, swimming, games and more! Cost is $24/child and children must be between 5 and 13 years old. Registration is now open for the December Parents Night Out!


Group Swim Lessons - Winter Swim Lesson Schedule (January and February) will open for registration on Nov. 1st at 9 a.m. Register in person at the front desk or online.


November Closures - The CAC Competition Pool will close at 12 p.m. on Nov. 4th for the North Forsyth 16th Annual Invitational Swim Meet (Instructional Pool will be open regular hours; all swim lessons will run as scheduled). The CAC will be closed all day on Thursday, Nov. 23rd and Friday, Nov. 24th (four lanes of the Competition Pool will be open on Nov. 24th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. only) for the Thanksgiving holiday. Municipal Election: Vote at City Hall on Nov. 7th

The City of Cumming Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7th at Cumming City Hall, 100 Main Street.


While Advance/Early Voting was held at the Forsyth County Voter Registrations & Elections Office, all voting ON Election Day will be held AT City Hall. Polls at City Hall will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Nov. 7th.

Historical Service, Helping Homeless Families, and Retired Educators Honored in October

During their October Regular Meeting, Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council presented three proclamations:


National Day of Service, Chestatee River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Oct. 21st) - This proclamation honored the efforts of the Chestatee River Chapter of DAR in historical restoration and preservation at various locations throughout Forsyth County, including the Sherrill House site in north Forsyth and several local historic cemeteries.


Family Promise Week (Oct. 15th-21st) - Representatives of Family Promise Forsyth accepted this proclamation which honors the group's efforts to assist homeless children and families in our local community through partnerships with local churches and businesses.


Retired Educators Day (Nov. 5th) - This proclamation was accepted by members of the Forsyth County Retired Educators Association in recognition of the statewide Retired Educators Day on Sunday, Nov. 5th.


Mayor Troy Brumbalow also met with members of Pack 207 Arrow of Light Cub Scouts just prior to the meeting, and the pack led the Pledge of Allegiance at the opening of the meeting.


In other business during the October Work Session and Regular Meeting, City Council took the following actions:


  • Approved an Impact Fee Ordinance amendment as part of City's agreement with Forsyth County regarding LOST (Local Option Sales Tax) which states that the City will collect impact fees for library, fire and emergency services.


  • Changed the date of the November Work Session to Wednesday, Nov. 8th, if there is business that needs to come before City Council, in light of the City's Municipal Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7th.


  • Accepted the low proposal from RDJE, Inc. for the Bethelview Downs Interconnection project, which will provide proper water flow and pressure to this area of the Cumming Utilities system.


  • Authorized Mayor Brumbalow to sign the resolution and closing documents for a GEFA loan which will be used to relocate Cumming Utilities water line along Hwy. 9 South to make way for GDOT's road widening project.

Register Now for this Year's Christmas Parade

The City of Cumming Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9th, beginning at 5 p.m. Registration to participate in this year's Christmas Parade is now open! Any group or individual interested in taking part in the parade must complete the Parade Registration Form and return the completed form to Crystal Ledford at cledford@cityofcumming.net (or via regular mail at Cumming City Hall, ATTN: Crystal Ledford, 100 Main Street, Cumming, GA 30040) by Monday, Dec. 4th at 5 p.m. Questions? Email cledford@cityofcumming.net. Please note that there will be NO Christmas Festival at the Cumming Fairgrounds following this year's parade. Please plan to attend the Cumming City Center Winter/Holiday Market & Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 18th from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for Photos with Santa, holiday gift shopping, kids' crafts, live holiday music, and more!

SAA Presents 20th Annual Christmas Arts & Crafts Festival Nov. 11th & 12th

The Sawnee Association of the Arts presents the 20th Annual Christmas Arts & Crafts Festival on Nov. 11th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 12th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Forsyth County Conference Center at Lanier Tech (next door to The Collection at 3410 Ronald Reagan Blvd.). Come out to shop from more than 80 vendor booths featuring artisans from across the Southeast. Find the perfect holiday gift from a wide array of items such as pottery, woodwork, jewelry, floral design, fiber art, paper and scrap booking supplies, and much more! There will also be a range of Christmas decor items for sale such as decorated wreaths and Christmas trees, photos with Santa (for a $5 donation), food vendors, The Elf Corner where only kids can shop, and more! Free admission and parking.

Thanksgiving Closure: Nov. 23rd & 24th

Cumming City Hall and other non-essential City of Cumming facilities and departments will be closed in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday on:


  • Thursday, Nov. 23rd and
  • Friday, Nov. 24th.
