JANET REVELL BARRETT
Sunday, November 29 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

David Whyte writes: “Thankfulness finds its full measure in generosity of presence, both through participation and witness.” We explore this idea through a cornucopia of reflections from persons of many ages and perspectives that range from the unabashedly grateful to the less certain. We gather together in shared appreciation of our lives, inviting others to join us and to witness gratitude in fuller measure.
SUBMITTING JOYS AND SORROWS

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
Join our online Zoom Fellowship Hour after the service on Sunday (around 11:30 a.m.). Come chat with UUCUC members and friends! All are welcome.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
Your contributions and support allow us to continue to respond with love and resources to the needs in our congregation and the wider community. We couldn’t do it without your support and we are grateful to each of you.

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Sunday, December 6 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

“Stillness” is our Soul Matters theme for December. Where do we find stillness in the tumult of life? What does stillness look like? What does it feel like? Is stillness passive, or is it a state of heightened awareness? Through poetry and music, Rev. Caplow and our worship team will explore this theme, as we enter the month of December and the darkest time of the year.

NEWS & ANNOUNCEMENTS
Urgent Message from Care Core: New Home Needed for 'Dancer' the Dog!

Several months ago, one member of our congregation needed emergency hospitalization & then needed long-term rehabilitation so we were asked to help find a temporary home for her dog, a Chihuahua. For the past 3+ months, Pat & Mindy McClard have generously and kindly provided that home for Dancer. They are no longer able to house Dancer because their daughter is allergic and our church member is not going to be able to return to her own home. Her family has asked us to solicit a new home for Dancer before having to make the decision to take him to the Humane Society. If you are interested or want more information, you can contact Pat McClard at 319 486-8942 for details. Please respond by December 4 so the family can move forward with a decision about Dancer and we can relieve Pat’s daughter’s allergies. Thank you!

OUR CARING CONGREGATION
OPPORTUNITY TO HELP

Dear UUCUC Community,

As you put together your giving plans this holiday season, please consider donating to the Little Free Pantries run by Julie Laut and AJ Herzog, which they have kept active daily since late spring. In order to address increased and unique needs this winter, they have created an Amazon wish list. All items will be delivered to Julie's house and shared between the two pantries. Donations of all items will continue to be accepted as usual at both locations, if you want to bring them in person.

Thank you for your support and generosity,
Julie and AJ
GROCERY DELIVERY AVAILABLE

If it would be helpful to have someone deliver groceries for you, we have several folks who have volunteered to do this. Contact Julie Laut at: jlaut@hushmail.com or 513-544-2682 & she’ll put you in touch with a volunteer.
UUCUC'S "BUDDY SYSTEM"
Staying connected while
UUCUC facilities are closed

During this time of social distancing, staying in touch and checking in with each other is going to be very important. We hope you will consider being part of our "Buddy System" so we can care for one another.

You can sign up here: https://uucuc.breezechms.com/form/2184f1. Buddies will check in with each other regularly by phone to provide connection, companionship, and connections to help if needed. This is a great way to help each other.
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org for last Sunday, November 22.

From Ursulla Idleman: Joy and a sigh of relief now that I have finally found a job! While I have spent the last several months learning to appreciate myself as a person rather than a profession, I am thankful to have found something stable and meaningful with the University’s Division of Disability Resources & Educational Services. A joy for equitable access to education, too!

From Marsha Clinard: My former brother-in-law, Chuck Schacht, died Friday after being on a ventilator for days due to COVID-19. He was a lover of life, teller of stories and a writer/singer of songs. Chuck was 74 years old and lived in Michigan. His family is deeply grieved.

From Tiffany Smith: So happy my mom came home yesterday after 2 weeks with Covid. And she is welcoming her puppy Hershey to the family!

From Umeeta Sadarangani: My father, who is 85, had successful spinal surgery on Thursday. We are hoping this will bring him relief from the debilitating pain he has been experiencing for months now. We are grateful for the wonders of modern medicine and for the "inside scoop" provided by Christal, my sister-in-law, who is a surgical nurse in neurology at the same hospital.

From Jerry Carden: Thrilled to be celebrating my 65th birthday on Monday, and to have finally achieved Medicare age! There were many close calls, and every turn of the age odometer is a joy for me.

From Andrea Herzog: The Herzog family is ecstatic to announce the addition of a four-legged member to our family. We adopted Benny Oliver, a little cockapoo puppy, yesterday. He is 4 pounds, loves to play and cuddle and we are smitten. If anyone needs to see adorable pictures or videos to help you get through this tough time, let the Herzogs know.

From Marilyn Ryan: I am grateful to celebrate Umeeta’s birthday on the 28th.

From Julie Laut: Our thoughts are with my mother- and father-in-law who tested positive for COVID earlier this week. The virus is hitting rural areas particularly hard now and I fear for those in my home town who have thus far not had to come face to face with the brutality of this pandemic. Please also keep my best friend, Meliah, and her daughter Aurelia in your thoughts as Meliah continues to work with her team of doctors to find an effective treatment path for her multiple myeloma diagnosis. The illness of my loved ones weighs heavy on my heart.

From Jennifer Ellis: It is with great sadness that we receive the news of Matt’s departure from UUCUC. He has brought much Joy through music to our church family and our own family over the years. Matt, your beautiful musical contributions and spirit will carry on in our hearts.

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service each Sunday. They will be read aloud.
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
UUCUC Social Action Offering. Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive offerings from our congregation. You may donate to the social action offering for the month in one of the following ways:

During the month of November, our monthly social action offering will support the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. UUSC is a 4-star nonprofit organization that strives to center the voices of people most affected by injustice.

They create relationships with frontline grassroots movements across the world that support marginalized communities. This work is especially important during this global pandemic. UUSC is providing flexible support to their grantee partners around the world and encouraging their partners to pivot as needed in response to the pandemic.

Now and following the pandemic, UUSC will support self-determination and defend the rights of people displaced due to climate, conflict, oppression, or economic hardships. Read more.
RECENT SHARED OFFERINGS

During the month of October 2020, Cunningham Township Angel Donor Fund was selected to be the shared offering. The UUCUC congregation contributed a total of $1,500 that month!

This Angel Fund was launched in 2018 by Cunningham Township to provide life-saving support for township program participants who have one-time miscellaneous needs that fall outside existing programs. All donated funds go directly to secure food, clothing, house, power and transportation.
