6/7th Grade Monthly Newsletter

Welcome to the monthly 6/7th grade newsletter!

For every Rosh Chodesh (Jewish new month), we will send a more detailed newsletter that supplements the weekly Remini updates.

Rosh Chodesh Kislev is November 24-25 - AKA Thanksgiving!

6th Grade

The first 6th Grade rotation had students exploring Israel, concluding with a chance to "Ask the Israelis," JLL full time educator, Noam Vinokor-Meinrath and our Israeli Shinshin, Roy Neumann. Students were curious about army life, food, culture and Israel life in general.

7th Grade

7th Graders are assigned rotations based on the date of their BMitzvah.

  • Rabbi Baken led students in writing a d'var Torah (their interpretation of their Torah parashah), to be delivered from the bima on their BMitzvah day.
  • Cantor Rodnizki, Isaac Sonett-Assor and Nancy Abraham led students in learning Torah trope--the system of music that BMitzvah students use to chant from the Torah.
  • Joanne Citrin and Jessica Calamari explored various methods of Social Justice, guiding students to think about how to pursue a Lo Ta'amod project.

Thank you for joining us on November 16th for the introduction to our next rotation!

The 6th Grade workshop, led by Rabbi Citrin and JLL educators, was titled Today You Are An Adult: What Does It Mean To Become a Teen?

7th Grade Families dove into the topic of parent/teen communication in a workshop titled You Just Don't Understand, led by Rabbi Baken and JLL educators.

The next rotation beginning on November 30 will feature more of the Moving Traditions curriculum which connects Jewish wisdom to the interpersonal and social elements that coexist with the coming of age ritual of BMitzvah. Students come to the Social Hall at 5:15 where the teachers will greet them and students will receive their peer group assignments.
