Fellow Psywarriors,

Summer is officially off and running. Not that there is much we can do to celebrate as in the past, but at least the weather is getting better, convertible and t-tops can come down, and folks can enjoy the outdoors.....carefully of course.

In May, POVA completed its first-ever Psywarrior Scholarship program, awarding education support funds to three students whose parent is a POVA member. We are very proud of this. We learned a lot from this "first pass," and will make improvements for the 2021 version of the program. It is a good way to benefit our members and their families.

Many of our activities are curtailed due to the continuing coronavirus crisis. Yes, it is a crisis.....it is real, it is dangerous, and we do not want any POVA members or family members taking unnecessary risks. Be careful, be safe!

Please remember that American men and women are deployed in many places around the world and are in constant danger. Please save a thought and prayer for our fellow Americans deployed. They are our Brothers and Sisters!

POVA Awards First-Ever Psywarrior Scholarships

POVA completed its initial Psywarrior Scholarship award process in May when it conferred education support scholarship funds to three deserving students.

Although we were only able to raise $1,500 for the initial scholarship awards, the awards were very much appreciated by the recipients. The student recipients are:

Bryant Pelkey who attends the University of Oklahoma. He is the son of Life Member David Pelkey.

Marisa Flores, daughter of member Robert Marquez; she attends the University of Texas at Austin;

Langley Hayman, daughter of member Ricky Hayman; she attends the University of Utah at Salt Lake City, UT.
Did you Know?

Here are some interesting historical facts about the deployment of military PSYOP, going back to its use in the earliest times in history. This history is beautifully reported on Life Member Ed Rouse's Psywarrior website ( www.psywarrior.com )

There is no single dimension to Psychological Operations. A basic truth is that PSYOP comes in many forms and shapes. So, did you know...........

In Ancient Egypt it was believed that cats captured the glow of the setting sun in their eyes and kept it safe until morning. This made it unlawful for cats to be killed except in ritual sacrifice by priests. When Cambyses II led the Persian Army against the Egyptians in the battle of Pelusium they tied cats to their shields and won a staggering victory.

In 525 B.C. the Persian and Egyptian armies were engaged in a fierce battle for the city of Pelusium. It is said that the inhabitants of Pelusium worshiped cats as gods. Their enemy knew of this belief and took advantage of it. The Persians deployed their forces to the villages and towns of the surrounding countryside, capturing as many cats as they could lay their hands upon. Once satisfied with the number of animals they'd collected, the Persian army returned to the city of Pelusium.

The Egyptians immediately attacked, but were frozen in their tracks as hundreds of panic-stricken cats were released onto the battlefield. Confusion spread through the Egyptian ranks. The Persian forces then advanced, each of the Persian soldiers holding a cat. The Egyptian soldiers dared not engage the enemy or shoot their arrows, fearing that to do so might endanger the lives of the cats. The Persians quickly scattered their enemy and their city defenses as Cambyses hurled cats over the walls of the city. After the taking of the city Cambyses showed his contempt of the Egyptians by carrying a cage of cats in front of him upon his horse, and hurling them with insulting taunts and laughter, into the faces of his foes.

I wonder how many parts of the 7-step process we can identify here.
