Coastal Day to be celebrated in Baton Rouge
ROR joins CPRA, other partners to call attention to the coast during session
Restore or Retreat will join the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority and the Coastbuilders Coalition to once again gather in Baton Rouge during the regular session of the Louisiana Legislature to celebrate coastal successes and call attention to the needs of Louisiana's working coast.

On Wednesday, May 19, the day will kick off with the monthly CPRA board meeting (click here for the agenda.) Tours of the LSU Center for River Studies will immediately follow the board meeting. After lunch, Governor John Bel Edwards will join the group on the steps of the capitol to speak on the importance of restoring and protecting our valuable coast. (Spoiler alert: there might be a few project announcements!) The formal part of the day will conclude with briefings on the sediment diversion program and upcoming bids/contracting opportunities for the coastal workforce in the Lasalle Building. The evening will bring the day to an end with a "Boils and Brews" reception presented by the National Wildlife Federation at the Pentagon Barracks.

Mid Barataria comment period extended
At the beginning of March, the US Army Corps of Engineers released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. There was also a companion restoration plan released by the Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group, which oversees the spending of post-BP dollars funding the project, as well as the mitigation and stewardship required. The deadline to comment on these two documents has been extended until June 3, 2021.

Without this project, the Barataria Basin alone could lose an additional 550 square miles of land over the next 50 years, a nightmare scenario that would jeopardize the safety and prosperity of not only the Barataria Basin, including Lafourche Parish, but our entire region, threatening our unique culture and our status as Sportsman’s Paradise.

In the field
ROR has been out and about with great partners recently
Restore or Retreat was pleased to join The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana and Mississippi, along with CPRA, in hosting Mississippi's Secretary of State Michael Watson and his staff to Louisiana. Lots of great discussion followed the group touring both a freshwater diversion and the Bonnet Carre flood control structure. We look forward to working with Sec. Watson on gulf coast issues in the future!
Restore or Retreat joined members of the media, as well as partners from the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, CPRA, Cajun Fishing Adventures and the Restore the MS River Delta coalition to tour areas along our working coast.

It was great to be out and about again, showing folks areas of the "new" Louisiana!

We had a great time visiting with Congressman Garret Graves and his staff recently in Houma, LA.
(Can you guess where?)

While there was a lot to discuss, restoring and protecting our irreplaceable region certainly was a big part of the discussion-- thank you for meeting with us, Congressman Graves!
Thank you for your generosity!
We are grateful for all those who supported ROR on these special days-- and throughout the year!
We also want to be sure to thank the Callais Family Fund who has generously granted Restore or Retreat $7,500 to continue our work with Lafourche and Terrebonne schools on a special coastal workforce project we have planned. We are grateful for Mr. Mike Callais and his steadfast support of our coast!
