First Friday Play Reading for February

The play for February is "Visit To A Small Planet," an imaginative comic affair written by Gore Vidal, in which an alien comes from another planet to do
a bit of sightseeing and to see or start a war.

He thinks he has arrived in time to see the Civil War, which he expects will be jolly, but he has misjudged his landing and arrives on earth in 1957.

Vidal wrote "Visit" as a television play for the Goodyear Television Playhouse, where it premiered in 1955. Vidal intended the play as a satire on the post-World War II fear of communism in the United States, McCarthyism, Cold War military paranoia, and the rising importance of television in American life.

People who wish to read on Friday, Feb. 4, should RSVP by email to Nanalee Raphael by Tuesday, Feb. 1; contact information is in the Parish Directory.

New this year is our starting time: the evening begins at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom and will finish at 8:30.

Everyone is encouraged to participate as readers or audience. No acting experience required.

The reading for this evening is suitable for humans of any age. You can request a
small part if you wish to read; roles vary in size from one liners to major characters. Scripts, cast lists and Zoom info will be emailed to all participants — readers and audience — by the Thursday before the reading.

Hope to see you there!
DATE CHANGE FOR MIGRANT SNACK PACKING

VIRTUAL ADULT EDUCATION

Dr. Chuck Dickson's latest Virtual Adult Education presentation is all about Candlemas: what is it, when is it, why is it called that, and more!

Join Dr. John Dore in a free class/discussion/practice group each Wednesday, from 5 to 6 p.m. (MST) on Zoom. The goal is to integrate the deep parts of our self, to become more whole, healthy and balanced in heart, mind and spirit, and to connect with others. Each week Dr. Dore will offer a brief teaching from Jung and Taoism, followed by discussion and sharing, and then experiences using Jung's methods or Taoist practices.

There is a short video on YouTube called "Soul-Tending the Garden: Following Carl Jung into the Tao" which provides more information. Feel free to forward the link to anyone who might be interested. Contact Dr. Dore by email if you wish to join.

Next meeting will be Jan. 26
4th Wednesday — 4:30-5:30 p.m.

To enhance your spiritual considerations dealing with importance issues such as white privilege, white supremacy, critical race theory, — and knowing the difference, in today's language — please consider attending. Discuss what you know and want to know, and learn even more for your discussion and education (possibly) with your spouse, family, and friends.

We meet the fourth Wednesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. on Zoom (meeting link). Typically we read an article or two received from other members and sent out by Rev. Chris Ledyard to focus our discussions/learning. We have included articles by James Baldwin, articles and YouTube presentations on The Ghost Dance, and an article on Bruce's Beach.

To know more about these, please come to our meeting. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Rev. Chris or Peggy Scott through the Church Office. Your attendance would be an honor and most welcome!

Artisans Beyond Borders, (ABB) a bi-national ministry at Grace St. Paul’s, began in 2019 as a way to bring trauma-informed arts and activities to asylum-seekers and their families waiting in shelters and on the streets in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico.

Today, therapeutic arts and the dignity of artisanal craft continue to bring comfort to the traumatized and hope to asylum-seekers.

Bordando Esperanza / Embroidering Hope, the flagship program, also helps restore personal agency and income through Etsy shop sales of artisans’ original hand-embroideries.
