January Kayoubikai: Shinnenkai 新年会

Join us for our first Kayoubikai in 2024 at Nori Thai and Sushi! This gathering also marks our Shinnenkai, a Japanese New Year's celebration, making it a special occasion for all. It's a great opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests, practice Japanese, and strengthen connections within our JASA community. Whether you're a JASA member or new to the community, all are welcome!


Please RSVP at least one day in advance to secure your spot. While there's no cost to attend this event, please note that everyone will be responsible for their individual bills after the meal. We look forward to seeing you there!

East Asian Heritage Festival: Year of the Dragon

In conjunction with the Alabama Asian Cultures Foundation the BMA invites you to celebrate the rich heritage of East Asian cultures and traditions for its free-of-charge East Asian Heritage Festival.

Take a cultural journey that honors the depth and beauty of East Asian heritages through art, crafts, music, dance, and culinary delights. Experience captivating performances ranging from Chinese dancing, melodious choir sessions, a vibrant fashion showcase, taiji demonstrations, to the rhythmic beats of performances, and many more. Savor delectable dishes from a diverse array of Asian countries and immerse yourselves in art activities designed to enlighten and entertain.


JASA will have a table set up to showcase Japanese New Year traditions and offer a fun origami experience!

MEXT Scholarship Information: Applications for the 2024 Japanese Studies Student Scholarship Now Open!


Application Due: January 22, 2024

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is now offering one-year scholarships to study in Japan for currently enrolled undergraduate students majoring in Japanese language, Japanese affairs or Japanese culture.

Keizai Koho Center (KKC), in cooperation with the National Association of Japan-America Societies (NAJAS), will offer the “KKC Study Tour to Japan 2024” for U.S. and Canadian grade 6-12 social studies teachers.

The program aims to deepen participants’ understanding of Japan and contribute to international mutual understanding across the Pacific. Their experiences and findings in Japan have significant value to their students, who will build future ties with Japan.

2024 Junior Fellows Leadership Program: Applications Now Open!


Application Due: February 9, 2024

Open to U.S. high school students from 9th to 11th grade, this program is a culturally immersive learning experience for high school students who possess the potential for strong leadership and demonstrate the skills necessary to be future leaders. During this program conducted in New York and Japan, Junior Fellows have the opportunity to build networks with current industry leaders and program alumni, stay with a host family in Aizu-Wakamatsu, Fukushima (Northeast Japan), participate in activities at a local high school, and experience Japanese history and culture through hands-on experiences and historical site visits.

① 2024新春「筆ペンアート笑文字(えもじ)」オンライン講座

アメリカ国内外で活躍される書画家の田中太山(たいさん)氏をお迎えし、筆ペン一つで描き上げる筆アート講座を開催いたします。「アメリカで書道を教えるおじさん」こと田中氏は、ニューヨークを拠点に書くことを楽しむをモットーに書画教室などを通じて子供から大人まで幅広い層から支持されています。今回は、文字を絵にする「笑文字(えもじ)」というユニークな書画を伝授していただきます。書画初心者の方からベテランの方にもおすすめできる、新しい書画の形をぜひ体験してください。

4回シリーズで、自宅でできるピラティス講座をオンラインで開催いたします。ダイエットや健康面で注目を集めるピラティスは、スタジオだけでなく自宅でも体一つで始めることができるため、世界中で老若男女問わず人気を集めるエクササイズです。今回は初心者やシニアの方が自宅で気軽に取り組め、日常の傾向増進に役立てることを想定しています。

Spring English Courses

ジャパン・ソサエティー・語学センターでは、日本人向けの英会話教室、「Spring English Courses」を開講いたします。ジャパン・ソサエティーでしか受けられない授業です。ぜひ一度ご体験ください。


英会話教室のレベル:初級・中級(下)・中級(中)・中級(上)/上級

いずれも日本語に精通するBen Milam先生が担当いたします。各レベルの授業内容の説明をご確認の上、ご自分に適したクラスをお選びください。ご自分のレベルが分からない場合は、第一週目に限り、他のクラスもお試しになれます。先生の助言も得られますので、ぜひお試しください。


アメリカ国内だけでなく、日本や他の国・地域からもご参加いただけるようご用意しております。

なお、全コースにおいて教科書の購入は不必要です。
