Greetings, Community Partners –

I hope all is well with each of you.

Our spring semester started this Tuesday (January 18th). Our enrollment has remained relatively even within last year’s enrollment. While this is lower than we expected, with Omicron and well documented declines in community college enrollment across the country, we are pleased to just be slightly up compared to last year.

As you prepare for the year, I would like to share with you a few updates from the college.

ESOL Classes start January 31st

There is still time to register for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes. We have some top notch instructors with a proven track record of helping students become successful. Please visit LoneStar.edu/LearnEnglish or click below for more information.

Non-Profit Impact Project

Lone Star College-Houston North launched the inaugural Impact Project designed to support diverse non-profit organizations within the Greater Houston community. The four-week program covers key topics such as Laws & Regulations, Management & Human Resources, Fundraising, and Finances. Each session is facilitated by individuals with key expertise in the noted topics. Each organization is paired with a mentor that has non-profit experience.

Out of 40 organizations that applied, five were selected. They are:

- Breaking Chains Making Amends

- Colors of Cancer, Inc.

- Making Awesome Things Happen (M.A.T.H.)

- South Union Community Development Corporation

- Women Who Look Ahead Mentoring

At the end of the project, each organization will be given the opportunity to “pitch” their services to local foundations. We are very proud that these organizations agreed to participate in this project. They are each dedicated to improving the lives of Houstonians. See the gallery below.
